Help support Data Scientists to develop Python tools and algorithms.

You will be part of a technical team supporting and maintaining software in production.

You have an analytical mind, you enjoy working out problems methodically and in depth, considering the wider context in which the problem exists.

You are adaptable and have an inquiring mindset and an interest in building your software development experience.

You identify and use the most appropriate analytical techniques. You understand analytical tools. You stay up to date with the latest advances in data manipulation tools.

You can collect, process and interpret data to derive meaningful insights.

As a Python Production Engineer you will be responsible for :

  • Maintaining code written by others, and make sympathetic amendments to it to improve its performance and reliability and fix problems which have been found in the production environment without changing the underlying algorithm.
  • Having detailed conversations with Data Scientists and getting consensus on any changes required.
  • Communicating effectively with other developers, who may not be familiar with Python, about the changes which have been made.
  • Producing high quality, clean and performant code and proving that your code works with automated unit, integration and UI tests.
  • Maintaining Jupiter environments and ensuring that the Data Scientists are able to work efficiently in them.
  • To be successful in this role you will

  • be a proficient Python Developer with experience of Python versions 2.7 and newer
  • have experience of working with and maintaining Jupiter environments.
  • have some experience of Jira and Git, and of working in an Agile Environment
  • be familiar with Linux / Unix and have some experience of writing shell scripts for those operating systems
  • Have a thorough and investigative approach to proactively investigating and solving complex problems.
  • Be a clear communicator, able to present complex technical topics in a way that is understandable by people who do not have your domain knowledge.
  • You will be able to do this both in written documentation and verbally.

  • be keen to learn and pick up new skills including libraries like Numpy and Pandas, if you don’t already have those skills and have an interest your own personal development and continually building your own knowledge of the subject.
  • Be comfortable working with people from a range of backgrounds, cultures and personalities.
