POSITION SUMMARY

Hardware design and development for Packet Networking Platforms

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Board level designs including digital and analog subsections, board level hardware architecture, and component selection.
  • Capture the detailed design with schematic entry tools; generate the BOM and netlist, etc. Provide guidance and layout / routing requirements to PCB designer through the CAD design cycle.
  • Work with Mechanical Engineer for thermal simulations, heat sink designs etc.

  • Develop CPLD and FPGA for glue logic, including code, simulation, and verification
  • Bench and system level testing of new designs for verification against design specifications and corrections before release into production
  • Complete all documentation that is required throughout the board development cycle starting from theory of operation to test specifications
  • Communication and co-ordination with Software, Systems Engineering, System Validation, Compliance / Reliability and Manufacturing teams throughout the design and development cycle from concept through production.
  • Attend meetings, report progress, and take technical leadership to troubleshoot and fix defects.
  • Help investigate and collect information to resolve process or design issues found on a current design or in previous designs.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to junior engineers hired into the team who may be tasked to perform some of the above duties.

  • SKILLS

  • High speed board level design for Telecom and networking equipment incorporating complex FPGAs, ASICs, CPLDs, PowerPC processors, High Speed memories, High speed serdes technologies, etc.
  • CPLD / FPGA design using synthesis / simulation tools with the VHDL and / or Verilog.
  • Use of standard bench level test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and protocol specific data pattern generator and Analyzers, and other supporting equipments
  • Strong hardware analysis, design, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to resolve complex issues that may require design trade-offs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of using software tools for analysis, development, testing, and debug.

  • EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • B.E. / M.Tech in Electronics Engineering
  • Minimum 12+ years doing hardware design from requirements, detailed design with schematic entry tools, PCB-CAD layout requirements definition, and prototype testing for verification / correction to final design release.
