Background HSBC Securities Services (HSS) IT team, as part of Global Banking & Markets, is investing heavily in the build out of our Data capability, focusing on innovation and the build out of new capabilities around automation, and aligning these closely to business needs and demands.
The expectation is that the successful candidate will continually push, explore and incorporate new technologies in delivering for the business.
Successful candidate will be part of HSBC Securities Services (HSS) IT team, as part of Global Banking & Markets, wherein he / she will lead and manage a team of software engineers and business analysts to develop, implement and support HSS systems.
This will include coordination of business users, vendors, and hardware and software requirements and driving respective software roadmap according to HSS business growth agenda.
Role Purpose The selected candidate plays development leader role in the Funds Technology department of HSS and proactively works with business executives and various stakeholders across the Funds business line but also across other HSS business lines (Custody, Treasuries, Corporate Trust and Loan Agency) to provide solutions for the Alternative Funds business.
The selected candidates strengthens business models by adapting and driving IT strategy to corporate vision. She / he maintains focus with Alternative Funds business initiatives while developing new IT strategies and implementing new technologies that improve processes and exceed challenging and multifaceted business demands.
She / he builds high-performance team, manages vendors, standardizes solutions and manage large-scale and complex technical projects and budgets while delivering successful results. Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage a team of software engineers to develop, implement and support Alternative Funds projects and production environment including coordination of business users, vendors and hardware / software requirements.
Drive respective software roadmap according to Alternative Funds business growth agenda.
Provide technical leadership for the design, development, implementation and maintenance of concerned systems used by HSS business.
Apply specialist expertise in the development of IT systems
Work closely with UK, Ireland, US / Canada, HK and China teams to ensure the IT solutions and project plans meet business needs and time to market.
Ensure due diligence and appropriate processes are followed when existing systems are modified and new systems are developed with the objective of improving quality whilst increasing cost-
effectiveness and achieving excellent levels of risk-management.
Work with other IT departments to define and plan the introduction of new systems or changes to existing systems, identifying costs and requirements and ensuring plans are in place to exploit them.
Develop employee’s knowledge and skills in specific areas of expertise, providing coaching and sponsoring training solutions where necessary.
Ensure implementation on time and in budget with appropriate quality.
Control concurrent projects and resources that vary in scale and complexity to meet changing objectives.
Manage the correction of live issues with the minimum disruption to the business Implement strong planning and resource forecasting techniques.
Manage staff development, assessment, training, motivation, discipline, recruitment and retention to assist the team in promoting the highest professional standards within the development environment.
Stay abreast of technology trends and advise IT and the business about potential benefits / impacts.
Ensure awareness of compliance requirements and implementation of Group Compliance Policy
Ensure compliance with all relevant internal instructions (FIMs, GSMs, circulars) and external regulatory requirements, including the management of operational risk and adherence to the Groups standards of ethical behaviour.
Local Job Requirements and Major Challenges
Lead (in a controlled, continuous and scalable manner) the build out of the HSS Funds offering into a range of mature and robust services for the HSS business.
Lead the support of the HSS Funds Production environments to ensure stability and performance meet the needs of the business users.
An important element is for the candidate to be an Agile practitioner with a proven ability in the use of Agile practices and principals to successfully deliver change.
They should be comfortable conveying Agile principals to less experienced colleagues, leading by example, and building a strong Agile culture.
Lead the team’s complex analysis work to understand and translate business requirements into new future state processes, in support of business operational development and benefits realisation
Certifications, Qualifications & Experience Experience
Preferably having at least 9 years of IT experience, including a management role covering project delivery and business analysis or systems development
Experience leading a team of over 5 or more people
Must have strong experience in at least one of the primary languages like Java or .NET.
Nice to have experience in RSL / RDL.
Must have strong scripting and programming skills especially in Unix.
Experience working in a global, matrix environment with remote development teams
Nice to have experience and understanding of Accounting and Valuation platforms and / or Fund Administration (Alternatives) business
Nice to have prior experience of Advent Geneva software application
Knowledge & Qualifications
University-level degree, preferably in a business or IT related discipline
Ability to manage and motivate a large team in different locations
Effective relationship and stakeholder management skills
Familiarity with business analysis, software design, system support, and implementation concepts in financial applications
Effective planning, project management and interpersonal skills
Good problem-solving and analytical skills
