Cloud Platform Engineering

Cloud Platform Engineering (CPE) is part of the Symantec Enterprise Security solutions business. As a part of its mission, the CPE team builds and operates the cloud platform and key infrastructure and platform services across application, data and security verticals.

We have embarked on a major cloud adoption initiative and are leading not only the build-out of the platform, but also driving the cloud governance and efficiency and cloud adoption best practices working closely with the public cloud providers.

As a part of the growth within CPE, we are expanding our presence in India and looking at building out a key CPE function out of Pune.

Your Responsibilities Drive, Support, Explore

Designation : Principal Software Engineer

As a senior technical lead within the CPE SRE team, your responsibilities include both leadership aspects mentoring the team and providing technology leadership for the build-

out and evolution of the cloud platform; as also technical execution aspects - building and ensuring that the Cloud Platform services remain healthy, performant and secure, with a keen focus on optimization, automation and enhanced service reliability.

You will be working as a part of a globally networked team both within CPE and across the wider Enterprise Solutions space, acting as the glue and the guide for the adoption and use of cloud technologies.

  • Own & Drive Owning and managing the AWS Cloud Platform and servicesBuilding software and systems to manage infrastructure and applications through automationGovernance of cloud services and ensuring compliance to cloud architecture and service standardsEnsure high reliability and availability for production systems, including upgrade and release processes and incident handlingManage and deploy monitoring, alerting and recovery solutions to both identify and address reliability risks / eventsMeasurement and optimization of system performance
  • Contribute & Support Mentor and support the SRE and product teamsDeployment, support and monitoring of new platforms and application stacksWork with Engineering groups to ensure systems are effectively integrated, configured & managedTroubleshoot and track issues through the ticketing systems and follow through to resolutionPerform on-
  • call duty as part of a team maintaining the availability and performance of our cloud platform and servicesSupport the Operational Readiness and run books for the services

  • Explore & Challenge Explore and evaluate new technologies and solutions to push our capabilities forwardRemain current on trends and make recommendations to correct deficiencies and deliver improvements.
  • Drive the adoption of new tools and services to help improve the service reliability including, but not limited to, new automation solutions, new monitoring and reporting solutions, new security and governance tools etc.

    Your Skills

    If you are a skilled AWS DevOps engineer, with expertise across multiple AWS services and experienced in automation and scripting and sound system engineering background with command over networking and security, jump right in!

  • Experience with administering AWS or other IaaS / PaaS Infrastructures setting-up / configuring VPC, security groups / rules, IAM, Route53, C / ALBs, auto-scaling groups etc
  • Strong System engineering expertise with experience working on AWS / public cloud platforms with sound understanding of networking, system administration (esp.
  • Linux) and security and encryption standards (incl. IPSec / SSL)

  • Strong automation tooling / scripting expertise (One or more - ansible / chef / puppet / jenkins)
  • Experience in one or more of the following languages - python, ruby, go, perl
  • Experience in terraform / cloud formation scripting for AWS services
  • Expertise in designing, building and optimizing AWS services right from setting up the account and the security perimeter
  • Software engineering expertise with experience in either complied languages (java, go) or scripting languages (ruby, python, nodejs)
  • Bonus points - ITIL and Cloud Governance experience with sound understanding of operations readiness processes and security & compliance standards, with experience in service management and reporting
