By joining the team, you will become part of our Tunnels and Underground Structures having 120 skilled professionals in India and will be heading a section consisting of Specialists that is in close collaboration with Specialists elsewhere in COWI's Business Line International delivering projects globally.


By heading the Geotech team of Tunnels and Underground Structures department in Gurgaon, India, you will be an integrated part our global network of geotechnical experts.

As Head of the Geotech section, you will have day-to-day collaboration with colleagues based in various departments of COWI's Business Line International business units globally.

The position reports to the Vice President, Tunnels and Underground Structures of COWI India.

A key component of your work will be to enable, promote and grow collaboration across COWI by building relationships and trust with key stakeholders within the COWI network, as well as other Head of Sections within the Tunnels and Underground Structures department.

In addition, your ability to promote and maintain a high-performance culture within the team by living and promoting COWI's values will be the cornerstone for successful delivery of the portfolio of projects being undertaken in the team.

You are expected to engage proactively in the development and empowerment of team members.

On a day-to-day basis, you will :

  • Act as a role model in the team in terms of values, culture and behaviour and set standards within the same.
  • Engage with key stakeholders within COWI's Business Line International network to grow the pipeline of work for the team.
  • The stakeholders include Line Managers, Project Managers, Delivery Managers and Specialists.

  • Develop and spar with individual staff members on their professional and personal development.
  • Engage in technical discussions on projects, when required.
  • Handle resource allocation between projects, by setting the right project teams - both for the projects, and the personal development of the team members.
  • Handle all organisational and staff related matters for the team, including recruitment.
  • In close collaboration with key stakeholders, develop the strategy for growth of the team, tying into COWI's overall strategic ambitions.

    You have a strong analytical skills and structured work approach so as to develop practical solutions.

    Furthermore, to align with the organisations overarching driver of technical excellence, you should :

  • Hold a Master's degree within Civil / Geotechnical Engineering
  • Have 10+ years (desirable) of profound design experience in carrying out analysis and design of underground structures such as retaining walls, diaphragm walls, sheet pile walls and ground anchors, utilising software's like Geo Slope, Plaxis, etc.
  • using International codes such as EURO etc.,

  • Have experience of ground movement assessment, finite element analysis and geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring.
  • Demonstrate previous experience of working with multi-cultural and multi-national teams. Working experience within Scandinavian and / or UK markets would be considered a plus.
  • Demonstrate impeccable English communication skills verbally and in writing.
  • Be self-driven and intrinsically motivated to make a positive difference for the team, COWI and yourself.
  • Manoeuvre and collaborate seamlessly across geographical and cultural boundaries.
