Job Summary

A Compliance Analyst position would involve understanding the transactions of Sales & use form and file tax returns for US states.

To work with team and stakeholders in order to achieve goals and deadlines, as well as observe monthly processes in order to determine ways that can help streamline output of the team, and the compliance product as a whole.

This position requires the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where attention to detail, analytical skills and strong communication skills are essential.

Also, would have to provide exceptional customer support in addition to producing timely and accurate results by way of preparing and filing the Sales & Use tax Returns.

Job Duties

  • Prepare and process Sales & Use tax returns and payments accurately and timely as required by taxing jurisdictions to ensure all Sales & Use tax filing deadlines
  • Understanding the aspects of accurate return preparation, filing and leveraging technology / knowledge to improve efficiency
  • Manage the clients' expectations and overall experience. Troubleshoot, validate and understand the transactional data
  • Proven expertise on the Sales & Use domain knowledge; Conduct sessions for the team as well
  • Maintain / update client and filing calendar information
  • Building trusted relations and closely working with Avalara staff and Stakeholders to ensure an efficient and responsive service
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form
  • Preparing month end reports for client records
  • Reconciliations or other pre / post filing tasks as assigned
  • Effectively utilizing experience to solve problems and bring in ideas to deal with various challenges
  • Perform root cause analysis in addressing challenging situations at work
  • Manage workload to effectively meet deadlines; Ability to meet the strict statutory deadlines and ensuring accurate and timely reporting
  • Assist in identifying areas of improvement and efficiencies in all compliance processes and drafting requirements
  • Ability to simplify things rather than making in complicated
  • Bring innovation to life at work through novel thoughts, ideas and create the spark within the team
  • Practice and celebrate WE culture rather than being individual focused
  • Flexible to extend working hours, working on weekends and holidays as may be required to complete the filings requirements
  • Understanding the tools / applications and procedures to successfully complete filings
  • Go beyond to help achieve team objectives rather than just being focused on individual deliveries
  • Identify ways to improve process and / or technology to better serve our customers.
  • Participates in projects and process improvements for the department
  • Updates / maintains all spreadsheets and tax calendars for various jurisdictions.
  • Responsible for ad-hoc projects related to tax discipline. Analyze and summarize tax information and prepare appropriate reports.
  • Collaborate with other teams / members to develop and enhance procedures to capture workflow processes for identified responsibilities and support all Automation possibilities.
  • Qualifications

  • 3+ years in multi-jurisdictional sales and use tax preparation and filing.
  • Should have an MBA in any discipline (may not be from top B-school)
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to be successful while overcoming obstacles, driven problem solver
  • Exhibit strong professional written and verbal communication skills, including conveying information in clear and simple method
  • Ability to work independently yet still function as a team player
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task to meet strict filing deadlines
  • Ability to learn and adapt to different software applications and tools
  • Provides examples of process improvements
  • Must have advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel and Access (functions include pivot table, vlookup, hlookup, etc.)
  • Experience in working with onsite teams / stakeholders
  • Excellent logical, analytical and organizational skills
  • Team player
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong SUT Domain knowledge
  • Good understanding about Customer interaction and dealing with sensitive data US region
