The role of a Fire SafetyEngineer is a life safety critical discipline mainly concentratingon the properties and fire performance of the construction andmaterials that form a rail vehicle.
The engineer will beresponsible for the overall vehicle fire safety design, whichincludes, but is not limited to, detection and alarm / warningsystems, manual or automatic fire suppression systems, emergencylighting systems, means of escape and egress provisions, escaperoute or exit door widths, places of safety and occupancylevels.
The role of the ECO Design engineer,is to evaluate and catalog materials used in Bombardier products,compile environmental documentation and preparation of reports andEnvironmental Product Declarations
The ECOdesign Engineer will coordinate and complete environmental work inprojects and for Bombardier products. The tasks involved includeinterpretation of environmental legislation, evaluation ofmaterials and products to ensure compliance to relevantlegislation, including Bombardier and customer requirements,completion of material inventories, participate in externalenvironmental networks, and promote the environmental performanceof Bombardier's products.
Define the FireSafety requirements based on contracts, norms and legislation for aspecific railway rolling stockproject.
Breakdown and allocate the FireSafety requirements to railway vehiclesub-systems.
Elaborate Fire Safety conceptand ensure it is implemented (e.g. running capability in case offire).
Attend vehicle and sub-system designreviews
Identify fire safety risk throughdetail concept and design reviews; develop and implement mitigationmeasures
Calculate fire load for a completerailway vehicle
Assess design complianceregarding Fire Safety
Review sub-systemsuppliers’ documentation
Preparedocumentation for third party fire safety assessment andcertification
Conduct Fire Safetytraining.
Develop and evaluate methods andtools for Fire Safety analysis.
Participateand represent the Asia Pacific division in BombardierTransportation Fire Safety Centre of Competence(CoC)
Take part in external networks e.g.UNIFE working groups or standardizationactivities.
Qualifications& Functional Knowledge :
B.E / B.Tech / M.E / M.Tech Engineering Degree or equivalent and Relevantexperience required
Minimum 5 years ofrelated professional experience
Specialized orcross-functional knowledge / relevant experience required by theposition / role
Experience in industrial workwith design and product development
FireSafety work, e.g. fire detection and extinguishing system,evacuation, fire barriers etc.
Materials andtheir properties related to FireSafety.
Tools and methods used within theFire Safety area, e.g. fire load calculationetc.
Standards and norms within the FireSafety area, e.g. EN45545
Material andrecyclability in a life cycleperspective
Experience working with M-CAD isan asset
Experience in the area of railindustry is an asset
Good communication skills andability to convince people
Competency inaccurate and structured work
