Job Description

Reporting to Regional Financial Controller APAC, this role is the finance leader for John Crane India who oversees the full spectrum of finance activities, including transactional finance (AP / AR / GL), management accounting, financial planning and analysis (FP&A).

The Finance Director will provide finance leadership to three business lines under John Crane India, Global Operations, GeoMarket, and International Support Center, with the financial advice, financial reporting, financial controls and management information.

This role will lead the processes for hiring, training and developing staff in order to ensure that the finance function is staffed with fully competent, trained and professionally qualified and experienced staff.

Duties & Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Operations

  • Lead the team in SAP GL transaction analysis, tracking SR1 / SR2 project costs, reviewing transfer prices, assisting with annual transfer pricing returns preparation,
  • Establish sound process for tracking overhead recovery hours and associated actual vs. absorbable overheads for plant operations
  • Responsible for timely & accurate month, interim and year end close activities at John Crane India
  • Ensure consistent use and appropriate application of the global chart of accounts and accounting principles and policies.
  • Review of balance sheet reconciliations for all entities at John Crane India
  • Monitor business control effectiveness and develop / execute improvement plans to assure accurate financial reporting
  • Ensuring asset management controls are robust and effective and in accord with Group requirements and for ensuring that working capital strategies are effective.
  • Ensure John Crane India capital & investment projects support Division’s needs and have the requisite financial evaluation such that the operational decision making for investments have a focus to maximize profit and cash
  • Business Partner and Commercial Review

  • Financial planning & analysis : Manage the analysis of consolidation of financial information, including ensuring accurate and timely analysis of month end actuals, preparation for regional review, understanding variances against forecasts etc.
  • Budgeting & forecasting : Lead the FP&A team in regular forecasting processes (rolling forecast, weekly forecasts, FQs, budget etc).
  • Review regional forecasts, key drivers, risks & opportunities etc. Support preparation of divisional reporting packs. Ensure accurate and insightful management reporting to regional management team.

  • Commercial business partner support : Lead the team to ensure divisional, regional and local management team have accurate data and KPI reporting for performance reviews.
  • Finance lead for market bids, including RORB / DORB financials preparation, review financial risks & opportunities (including in T&Cs), benchmark and challenge costs / margins.

    Work with Managing director, Sales and commercial team, Regional Finance Business Partner to prepare financial forecasts & budgets

  • Continuous improvement : Identify areas for improvement in financial analysis, forecasting and commercial support, drive improvements in efficiency and quality of business support.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline, automate or digitize reporting, and reduce manual work.

    Tax & Compliance

  • Provide statutory account, tax filing and other reporting to local authorities in a timely manner.
  • Manage internal and external audits at John Crane India
  • Understand the transaction flows between intercompany entities and ensure transfer prices and resultant profit splits are in line with divisional operating model / divisional guidance
  • Ensure the business is compliant with all Smiths Group and John Crane policies and procedures, such as delegation of authority, expense procedures, Capex application, foreign exchange etc.
  • Assure compliance of Company operations to all applicable laws, regulations and standards, regulations and standards, good business practices and company documented procedures
  • Operate within Company policies and procedures such as Smiths Code of Business Ethics with a high level of integrity.

    The Individual

  • 10 years years of experience in financial management; of which at least three to five years have been in supervisory role
  • Strong proven leadership skills particularly, in terms of developing talent, setting direction, and managing the performance of team size of more than 5.
  • Ability to make effective, timely decisions in a complex, global market by sourcing and analysing critical information
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills.
  • Knowledgeable in local VAT, indirect taxes, and all local statutory filings
  • Experience of working in well-established global multinationals with matrix reporting structures.
  • Ability to report to a senior level outside the country whilst supporting the local business management.
  • Strong exposure to IFRS and IndAS
  • Experience in data management, including use of business intelligence reporting and finance systems. Knowledge of SAP is a must.
  • Ability to handle pressure at work and meet tight deadlines.
  • Qualified Chartered Accountant from a recognized professional accountancy body
