The Position :

Apptio seeks to hire a Director of Engineering responsible for leading the development of key areas of the Apptio product suite.

The right candidate will be skilled in the architecture, design and development of SaaS enterprise applications, contribute to the core technical strategy, drive product and functional requirements, value user experience, and will be a technology steward for the integrity of the system.

You will ensure that Apptio discovers, designs and delivers the right core capabilities predictably and to enable the teams that develop the solution to continuously improve.

You are passionate about building simple, powerful, scalable services, innovative SaaS architectures, software quality, and developer productivity that results in high customer value delivery.

As a director at Apptio, you will participate in strategic planning while leading a skilled management and technical team.

You will be involved in the daily activities of running the engineering team including : road mapping, planning sessions, requirement reviews, coding, design reviews, and technical discussions to determine technology direction.

Additionally, you will work closely with engineering teams across the Apptio product suite, information security, product management, user experience, and other engineering leaders to define and architect innovative solutions.

Job Responsibilities :

  • Recruit and lead a world-class software engineering team of professionals, mentoring their professional development through personal and performance management
  • Lead product development from initial requirements to the global delivery of a high-quality service to our enterprise customers
  • Manage team to maintain quality, including test-ability, and to respond quickly to product / quality of service issues
  • Participate in business, product and strategy planning, enthusiastically contribute to the execution of the joint product roadmap
  • Collaborate with other senior members of the engineering staff on Apptio-wide system design and architectural plans
  • Work closely with the product management team to identify, scope, and prioritize features, integrating those into engineering plans that deliver high customer value and meet market demand
  • Explain and evangelize current and future product capabilities to internal and external audiences
  • Collaborate with other leaders to define procedures, tools and practices to optimize team productivity
  • Qualifications :

  • Minimum 20 years commercial software experience, with significant engineering management experience leading technical teams of individual contributors and managers
  • Proven track record of shipping high-quality enterprise applications on time with transparency of the engineering progress and increasing predictability of delivery
  • Good engineering development background and experience building products from ground up
  • Current in technology trends, knowledge, and experience, such as : Cloud technologies in AWS, Azure or GCPDatabases, both SQL and NoSQLAgile software development practices and SaaS DevOps cultureStrong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, enterprise systems, and asynchronous architectures
  • Has designed, built, and shipped complex systems involving multiple engineering teams
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, collaboration across global teams and critical thinking
  • Has ensured a high level of code quality and contributed to engineering best practices, leading by example
  • Track record of mentoring, recruiting, retaining and growing multiple teams of engineers and managers
  • BE / BTech in Computer Science & Engineering, or equivalent is required.
