Job Description

Assistant Manager Tax will be placed out of Chennai, India, would be responsible for supporting various tax initiatives and planning for India operations.

This position will provide significant support to our tax function; including tax reporting, transfer pricing policies, managing audits by tax authorities, managing / reviewing tax holiday and incentive programs.

This is a ground floor opportunity for the right candidate to participate as part of a global tax team with exposure to all areas of Flextronics’s businesses.

This is also an opportunity for the successful candidate to get invaluable experience working together with seasoned international tax professions within the Flextronics corporate tax group with substantial experience working on complex international structures and global planning.

The role will require a broad financial background and experience base with particular focus on tax and transfer pricing areas.

  • Here is a glimpse of what you will do

  • Coordinate with the external consultants and, assist in reviewing, and ensuring timely filing of income-tax / transfer pricing returns & forms
  • Assist in preparation and review of annual transfer pricing documentation.
  • Support and / or manage income-tax and transfer pricing assessments including collation of details and coordination with the external advisors and internal teams
  • Monitor withholding tax (WHT) compliances, specifically wrt payments to non-residents in advising the teams on the WHT rate and the documentation required to be collected
  • Calculation of quarterly advance tax payable
  • Support in various special projects concerning India India is becoming one of the areas of growing interest to Flextronics’ customers and there would be opportunities to learn and contribute to the various special projects / initiatives of the Corporate tax group
  • Support in other administrative activities that aid to achieving the above, such as preparing and maintaining trackers for periodic reports to the management etc
  • Identify potential tax exposures in the operations and assist in finding an optimal solution and implementing this includes preparation of internal agreements, notes, memos documenting the issue and the solutions, assist in its implementation by preparing / reviewing agreements, contracts, reports etc
  • Assist in the preparation and review of FAS 109 tax packs and FIN 48 memos and calculations, tax audit tracker, tax exposure computations etc
  • Apart from the core tax activities, the candidate will also be required to assist in various projects that the Tax group works with the functions such as Treasury, Operations, Business Development etc
  • In addition to the above, the candidate will gain exposure in the following areas working on projects across the Asia region

  • Monitor legal entity profitability to ensure compliance with arm’s length principles under transfer pricing methodologies.
  • Support the corporate tax regional team on various initiatives or projects and get involved in challenging and interesting tax or transfer pricing projects that ultimately will drive value to our Company.
  • The various special / one-off projects, which may be implementing inter-company arrangements, M&A projects, tax audits, computation and assessment of what-

    if scenarios, application for or maintenance of tax incentives, coordination and management of such / similar projects across the region, etc.

    Flextronics is looking for self-starters with a desire to learn.

    Here is some of what you will need (required)

  • Chartered Accountant with at least 4 years post qualification experience specializing in tax / transfer pricing and taxation with a large MNC or Big 4 desired
  • Experience in preparation of transfer pricing reports or handling transfer pricing matters experience in handling transfer pricing matters of other jurisdictions would be an added advantage
  • Familiarity with excel, Outlook Soft, BAAN is a plus.
