Establishment of Department Pool for Affiliate / Part-Time Instructors of Hospitality, Tourism, and Events Management


Qualified applicants will be placed in the departmental pool and will be considered for affiliate / part-time departmental needs beginning Spring 2016.

Duties / Responsibilities

Teach 3 credit hours. Subject areas are to include : Kitchen Procedures and Production, Food Service Sanitation and Safety, American Cuisine, International Cuisine, Garde Manger, Baking Basic Breads, Pastry Shop, and Classical Kitchen Wine Fundamentals, Beer & Spirits, Enology : The Making of Wine, Wines of the Old World, Wines of the New World, Wine & Food Pairing.

Candidate will work and interact with diverse groups of individuals, demonstrate ability to effectively infuse technology into course work, be available for consultation with students.

Affiliate faculty are part-time, at-will employees hired to teach on a semester by semester basis. Affiliate Faculty are not eligible for benefit coverage under the University’s benefit program.

  • All such teaching assignments are dependent on budget and enrollment. An Affiliate faculty member’s duties include : meeting assigned classes or delivering online content consistent with University, School, and Department policies;
  • providing instruction in assigned classes consistent with the content and learning objectives of the regular course syllabus and, if appropriate, with Department course coordination policies;
  • being available, either face to face or electronically, to students in assigned classes to provide additional support as needed and appropriate for the teaching assignment;
  • and complying with University-wide student evaluation of instruction policies and peer observation policies.

    Candidates need to be sensitive to the educational needs of students from a diverse population, conduct student assessments as prescribed by the curriculum, and must be willing to adhere to policies and procedures regarding students and faculty as established by the University and Department.

    The University is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented groups.

    Required Qualifications

    A Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management or related field, plus a minimum of three years of relevant experience.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Master’s degree in Hospitality Management or a related field, plus a minimum of six years in professional industry experience in beverage operations and management as a sommelier or in a management position.
