Establishment of Department Pool for Affiliate / Part-Time Instructors of English for the DIME program in Detroit. Qualified applicants will be placed in the departmental pool and will be considered for affiliate / part-

time departmental needs beginning Fall, 2016.

Duties / Responsibilities

Teach one to nine credit hours. Teaching areas include the following : First Year Writing courses, especially the stretch ENG 1008-

09 sequence, and appropriate Arts and Humanities general education courses. Instructors should be prepared to teach in person or online.

Affiliate faculty are part-time, at-will employees hired to teach on a per credit hour basis for specific classes, as needed, usually on a semester by semester basis.

Affiliate Faculty members are not eligible for benefit coverage under the University’s benefit program. All such teaching assignments are dependent on budget and enrollment.

  • An Affiliate Faculty member’s duties include : meeting assigned classes or delivering on-line content consistent with University, College, School, and Department policies;
  • providing instruction in assigned classes consistent with the content and learning objectives of the regular course syllabus and, if appropriate, with department course coordination policies;
  • being available to meet students in assigned classes, and participating in required professional development opportunities and program assessment activities;
  • and complying with university-wide student evaluation of instruction policies and peer observation policies.

    The University is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented groups.

    The successful candidate must have experience working with and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse urban student population including (but not limited to) students of color, LBGTQIA students, students from low-

    income backgrounds, first-generation students, students with disabilities, undocumented students, non-traditional students, student veterans, and English-language learners.

    Required Qualifications

    Master’s degree in English or closely related field; or alternatively, Master’s of Education plus 18 hours in the field of English.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Doctorate in English or closely related field.
