If you’re ambitious, driven and team-spirited, this is your opportunity to build a career as a Lead Mechanical Architect
Purpose of the job
The lead mechanical architect is accountable of the vehicle arrangement definition and the mechanical interfaces management across the Product Family (PF).
He / she relies on mechanical architects working on clearly defined and separated technical scope. He / She ensures the team development on mechanical architecture knowledge, bring them up to a more functional view by aiming standardization.
Within the Product Family, he / she is in charge of the delivery of mechanical architecture scope relying on his team of mechanical architects, by :
Ensuring that requirements, resulting from functional architecture analysis and affecting vehicle mechanical architecture, are well cascaded, understood and implemented in the design
Defining vehicles arrangement, their related layouts and volume allocations for the main sub-systems
Defining a mechanical architecture to comply with vehicle performance requirement such as acoustics and vibration, aerodynamics, industrial design and passenger flow, human factors and ergonomics, passenger and crew evacuation, vehicle gauging, vehicle dynamics, weight, etc.
Leading mechanical concept definition and architectures harmonization across the Product Family
Managing variability of the design with a standardization and modular approach
Leading the team to manage mechanical interfaces of sub systems on vehicle
Ensuring compliance with Center of Expertise (CoE) directives, with Metier guidelines and with Product Family directives
Verifying mechanical architecture deliveries
Managing the product priorities, the workload and the budget
Escalating issues and lessons learnt to the head of vehicle architecture of the Product Family and to the head of CoE mechanical architecture
Attending as a permanent stakeholder to the CoE mechanical architecture committee meetings
Team Capability Development :
Assess mechanical architects capability according to competency matrix
Liaise with CoE to identify capability gap and set a development plan accordingly
Bring up the mechanical architects to a more functional view and to a system concept approach (system engineering thinking)
provide mentorship and training to the mechanical architects under his / her supervision
Product Development :
Perform the analysis and deliverables for the bids by maximizing re-use of existing building-blocks
Ensure the execution of mechanical architecture according to Product Family roadmap
Capture and understand the Product Family requirements and ensure consistent application
Review and approve mechanical architecture deliveries of the product family
Lead the governance of mechanical interfaces maturity on his / her Product Family and ensure the zone review methodology is well deployed
Deliver a QCT governance within the function and a risk assessment on his / her workpackage
Ensure solutions quality (in the sense of state of the art ) and compliance to the requirements
Ensure standardization and harmonization within Product Family
Re-use building blocks, solutions, guidelines and tools from the CoE mechanical architecture library
Ensure a modular approach for mechanical design to manage Product Family variability
Align the change management around the configuration baseline strategy of his / her Product Family
Incorporate lessons learnt in continuous improvement and ensure proper application of best practices
Workpackage (WP) and costing Management
Execute mechanical architecture activities strictly according to an agreed WP and budget
Always provide a view on the current and planned workload of his / her team
Ensure local time sheet approval
Ensure cooperation with COE Mechanical Architecture Team
Work closely with the CoE mechanical architecture, ensuring the capacity / capability development
