The Engineering R & D functionat Medtronic Engineering & Innovation Centre (MEIC), Hyderabad encompassesdesign, development and verification activities during New Product Development(NPD) and sustaining phases of the product development cycle for the GlobalBusiness Unit (GBU)s.
The function is accountable for both design and designtransfer support for a product under development.It entails, but is not limited to, activitiescommonly carried out during the product development process.
Examples include software development &testing in embedded, application and mobile arena, prototype development andtesting, and documentation.
This Engineering Manager (R &D) will serve as a functional manager to an Agile SCRUM team(s) working on therequirements, design, development and verification of Medtronic Products
A Day in the Life
TheEngineering Manager (R & D) would be accountable to sustain and maximizethe Engineering excellence (Development & Verification).
This individualmust build the product innovation culture and the right capabilities to ensuresuperior performance and value delivery through product development.
He mustequip his teams with the skills, tools, and processes to deliver products in aniterative and incremental manner. The individual shall be able to inspire,coach and grow the Engineering Supervisors and Scrum teams with diverse skillsets and technologists.
Minimum Qualification
Minimumof 12 years of applicable workexperience in a product development & global team environment specific toAgile software product development
Managementexperience in leading engineering teams and / or R & D function
Minimum of 5years of direct people management and program management experience withinengineering and / or R & D function
New ProductDevelopment experience in design, development & verification of applicationsoftware, UI design, firmware, and OEM integration
Experience inQT UI platform, C++, software and embedded software development.
Knowledgeand / or experience in test automation tools such as Squish
Experience inExtreme Programming practices such as Test Driven Development and BehaviorDriven Development
Knowledgeand / or experience in FDA Design Controls
Knowledgeand / or experience in Design Thinking and Agile Dual-Track development
Medicaldevice MNC experience would be a plus
Goodunderstanding of Connectivity technologies IoT platforms, Sensors, Web,Mobile app would be desirable
Priorexperience in a large MNC on technical Managerial roles is preferred
Priorexperience working with cross-cultural teamwork experience is preferred
Demonstratedexpertise in the field of product development and product engineering
Experienceleading a full-lifecycle of new product development release from concept tocommercialization.
Proven trackrecord identifying and executing complex engineering projects.
Ability tolead a team of size 10 to 15 employees, within a large, diverse MNC; includingtalent management.
Ability tomentor and coach employees to maximize their potential.
Experience inthe areas of design for lean six sigma, Quality through design, Extremeprogramming and Systems Engineering.
Knowledgeablein IEC standards such as 60601, 62304.
Experience insoftware development practices and models, and must be comfortable withFirmware development.
Criticalexperience in handling large to medium software development projects fordesktop, web and mobile applications revolving around connected health care.
Collaboratewith the global engineering teams in the development and implementation ofmedical software application that includes libraries, frameworks, testingplatforms and services, and deployment methods that can help build verticalsolutions for various therapies.
Identify theneeds and prepare capabilities in the software application development andverification and validation areas.
Driveproductivity improvements in software development and establish software bestpractices across the projects.
Provide adeep understanding of the software development processes (Agile, XP and Leanmethodology) and help establish software metrics & recommend the processesfor the team.
Research andmaintain solution architecture, technical design, tools and technology stackand related system and drive proof of concept efforts at Hyderabad.
Work with theglobal software engineering team, and apply deep working knowledge of thearchitecture trends and emerging technologies, while assisting andparticipating in the development of roadmaps and strategy.
Apply bestpractices for development and testing in terms of coding standards, designpatterns, reusable components, and automation.
Deliver tothe expectations of the business units to accomplish project goals.
Establish andremain educated on the technologystandards ( HL7 , 62304, ISO 11073 etc).
Evaluatenew technologies / trends / security / testing, provide technical vision, andcontribute significantly to solution innovation.
Identify,hire, train and deploy resources as partof establishing a team of software excellence as per competency details aboveand create meaningful digital healthcare solutions
Develop humanresources by coaching, empowering, reviewing results, both in technical areasand in soft skills
Identify solutionknowledge gaps within Hyderabad in software solutions and prepare plans toaddress them (strategic alliances and self-managed teams)
Work closelywith the global software teams to ensure that the technology decisions areconsistent with the overall business unit technical strategy.
ExcellentTechnology management, project management skills; demonstrated successexecuting complex engineering projects with diverse technical teams;
managementof globally dispersed teams highly-preferred;
