As a payroll tester the individual will have detailed knowledge of payroll processes (ideally pensioner payroll but not essential) and HMRC legislation around taxation, RTI and FPS reporting.

Assisting the Payroll Test Lead to ensure the test strategy (approach) for core Payroll functionality meets HMRC legislation and the needs of the business.

The individual will provide payroll test expertise, assisting in test preparation (payroll data creation and test scripting), undertaking test coverage reviews and the actual test execution.

Whilst performing these manual test activities, the individual will work in conjunction with the test automation team to build an automated regression pack for high-level core payroll processes.

Business Functions :

  • Paymaster IT is responsible for end-to-end delivery of all EQIT services into EQ Paymaster. Essentially this breaks down into two main areas;
  • namely, Platform Development and Professional Services. This is reflected in the structure, with most functions being accountable for both platform development and delivery services.

    Most platforms in use by EQ Paymaster have been developed internally and some platforms are in use by external software clients whom we also support.

    We have a continual programme of development of the main products and subsidiary products across both the workplace / occupational pensions and L&P market sectors.

    Recent additions to the product set include a responsive self-service offering, web services for integration into other web sites, a mobile offering and the recent standalone RetireMe app.

    Testing & Assurance - Responsible for system testing core and configuration changes to the pension, payroll and L&P administration systems using UK specialists and Indian EQ test professionals.

    These individuals provide functional, non-functional and test automated QA services while ensuring the adherence to test strategies, governance, test plans and defect management policies throughout the SDLC.

    Core Duties and Responsibilities :

    Successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties

  • Supporting planning documentation from requirements specifications / user stories
  • Manual Test execution while accurately recording and storing test results
  • Fully understand how all aspects of their work integrates with the rest of the SDLC
  • Support the Agile testing process, attending daily stand-ups and ownership of individual user stories
  • Implementing scheduled tests, execution and logging the tests and evaluating the results and documenting any deviations from expected results
  • Perform peer reviews of the test cases / scripts prepared by other team members
  • Raise queries and collaborate to resolve queries with Development Team / Subject Matter Experts
  • Be a point of contact for effective dialogue with UK colleagues to resolve any clarifications and queries
  • Change control to original requirements for impact analysis and
  • capture these changes within a traceability matrix or within TFS

  • Defect retesting, fault reviews and defect analysis of any issues raised
  • Provide testing expertise for the UI testing of Web and mobile devices
  • Provide technical testing guidance for multiple browser testing and device testing (operating systems), supporting risks and coverage reviews
  • A strong background in working with Agile testing process
  • A good understanding of test methods, covering - system testing, regression testing, exploratory testing, negative testing and platform testing

    Successful candidate should demonstrate the following skills and behaviour

  • Must have experience of working in a development team that follows SDLC
  • A good background in working with automation test tools is desirable for automation script execution
  • Comprehensive knowledge of any payroll knowledge is added advantage
  • Experience / Exposure to database SQL Server, Microsoft office and SharePoint
  • Highly flexible, including willingness to work away from home base.
  • Interacts with and influence immediate colleagues and should have more influence in own domain.
  • Should perform a range of varied work activities in a variety of structured environments.
  • Understands and uses appropriate methods, tools and applications. Demonstrates a rational and organised approach to work.
