The Job

The Unreal Technical Director (TD) will be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the tools, software, and scenes inside the Unreal Engine used for our Feature Animation shows.

You will be providing face-to-face technical support and assistance to artists, as well as developing new tools and scripts predominantly in C++, Blueprints, and Python to meet the specific show requirements.

You will also be in charge of debugging, optimizing, and solving problems within our shots and environments inside the engine.

Our talented Unreal TDs are technical and demonstrate an aptitude for creative problem-solving. Come help integrate the next-generation pipeline and workflows that will power our animation productions.


Troubleshoot a variety of issues, challenges and technical restraints.

Work effectively and efficiently to create high-quality images within tight timelines.

Support the project teams with the technical implementation in Unreal and exporting USD assets from Maya to Unreal.

Help coordinate the pipeline from the artists through to deployment.

Complete asset handoff checks to meet project requirements.

Provide training and maintain documentation of best practices when it comes to building scenes inside Unreal.

Provide technical advice and support for artists.

Debug and help optimize problematic scenes / shots.

Collaborate with R&D developers and senior production supervisors to develop specific new C++, Blueprints, or Python tools and workflows.

Be up-to-date on the latest developments related to the path-tracer and the rasterizer rendering features.

Contribute to the development and constant improvement of the pipeline.

Ensure requests for new tools are connected with company strategy.


Excellent C++, Python, and technical Windows and UI skills.

Familiarity with Unreal Engine, Blueprints, and working in distributed Unreal based systems.

Familiarity with content production workflows for integration in Unreal projects.

A degree in computer science, computer graphics or other related field or equivalent experience.

Familiarity with source control systems and team development.

Excellent communication skills and ability to accurately and succinctly communicate between technical developers and non-technical artists.

Experience in games, themed entertainment, visual effects, or a related industry.


Familiarity with USD pipelines such as Houdini Solaris / Maya USD.

Experience in developing tools for DCC packages such as Houdini, Maya, Blender, etc.

Solid understanding of the visual effects pipeline.
