The Head of IT Governance and Planning is responsible for the overall delivery of the IT component of business change and IT specific initiatives.

  • The role will lead the team of IT Project Managers with composite traditional and scrummaster skills, and IT management support staff;
  • including responsibility for resource management across delivery, and setting IT Project Management standards. They will ensure that all team members adhere to agreed project management methodology, appropriate software development life cycle and related framework, managing the contribution that IT makes to business objectives.

    Key accountabilities :

    Delivery & Cost Management :

    Responsible for the governance and quality of IT Projects and / or IT workstreams of business change programmes

    Assigns, schedules, reviews, and monitors work to ensure that progress is within expected guidelines and is completed on time and within budget

    Works with appropriate customers to estimate the workload, identify the roles of project team members and secures the relevant project resources

    Ensures that risks, issues and dependencies are being recorded, monitored and proactively managed to minimise disruption to successful delivery

    Manages the budget associated with IT work, monitoring expenditure and cost against delivered and realised benefits as the project progresses

    Reviews actuals and forecasts with PMs and challenge overspend / underspend

    Manages the cross-charging of resource and other costs to the relevant cost-centre

    Accurately reports project progress to IT exec management and the Business Transformation Office

    Ensures accurate and timely reporting to the various Project Boards

    Delivers monthly KPIs as set by IT Function

    People Management :

    Responsibility for all IT project managers and the IT management support personnel

    Lead and mentor the IT project managers from initiation through delivery, as determined by the overall strategic initiative and lifecycle selected.

    Lead and mentor the IT management support personnel as they provide guidance on project management standards, tools and resource allocation and in-flight optimisation

    Be the primary contact for prioritisation and allocation of Project managers

    Maintain Demand / Supply view in relevant PMO tooling for resource allocation

    Manage any technical suppliers to ensure adherence to brief, technical compliance and value for money

    Influences and negotiates with senior stakeholders to ensure business analysis, development, test and implementation activities are visible and in line with agreed customer expectations
