Component Design Engineers are responsible for the design and development of electronic components. Responsibilities may include : the design of chip layout circuit design, circuit checking, device evaluation and characterization, documentation of specifications, prototype construction and checkout, modification and evaluation of semiconductor devices and components, performing developmental and / or test work, reviewing product requirements and logic diagrams, planning and organizing design projects or phases of design projects.
Responds to customer / client requests or events as they occur. Develops solutions to problems utilizing formal education and judgement.
Primary responsibilities of design engineers in this position is in verification and execution of simulations on integrated circuits as well as developing design methods, flows and tools in IP and SOC (Silicon on Chip) VLSI circuits.
Key tasks include executing pre-silicon design modeling, correct-by-construction, simulation and design verification tasks with focus on the reliability of the circuit design.
Common circuit reliability mechanisms are Device Aging, Interconnect Reliability (Electromigration), ESD (Electro Static Discharge), LU (Latch Up), SER (Soft Error Reliability) and design / package interaction.
Other responsibilities include performing risk assessment for pre-silicon design issues and analysis of performance and circuit marginality considering the mechanisms summarized above.
MSEE in circuit simulation / PV / RV / Physical Design with relevant educational experience is required. Skills in device physics / circuit operations as well as strong skills in technical problem solving, communication and data analysis needed.
Knowledge in design methodology (timing, noise, physical circuit design, layout) needed as well as understanding / optimizing performance / reliability / power tradeoffs.
Experiences in overall knowledge of VLSI design flow, technology development and device physics are a plus.
