The India Power Grids Operations Center (INOPC) is a competence center with around 900 skilled engineers who focus on tendering, engineering, planning, procurement, functional system testing, installation supervision and commissioning.
However, over the last decade, it has evolved to become the largest engineering hub within PG Business and HVDC and FACTS engineering center outside ABB Sweden.
The India Operations Centre is a key aspect of the Power Grids business Power Up transformation program. The INOPC team at Chennai supports ABB units in more than 25 countries across a wide portfolio of all the four business units in Power Grid business.
To date, the team has executed engineering and commissioning for projects in more than 60 countries.
Analyze and understand customer engineering, business and software requirements, propose technically feasible solutions, estimate required effort, identify risks and formulate implementation approach and assumptions.
Design, develop, test, integrate and document optimization applications and related work for customer projects, while following best engineering and software development practices.
Support software releases and assist onsite / support team with expert knowledge, problem analysis, troubleshoot and resolution of defects as required to bringing issues to closure.
Actively research and further own knowledge in mathematical modelling, optimization, market operation, power system analysis and real time control and support and improve software development practices and documentation.
Provide expertise and represent the company internal and external discussions with internal stakeholders, customer meetings, industry gatherings.
Must be willing to travel for short periods of time to visit or support customers around the world.

Ph.D. or Master’s Degree with two (2) years of experience in Electrical Engineering with special emphasis in electricity markets.
Demonstrated programming skills in high performance, high programming level languages such as FORTRAN or C / C++.
Familiarity with mathematical modelling tools (AMPL / AIMMS) and optimization solvers (CPLEX and Gurobi).
Familiarity with Linux and AIX operating systems.
Proficient English written and oral communication skills.
Experience with Power Systems Network Modeling, Network Topological Analysis, Power Flow, Contingency Analysis, State Estimator, Security Constrained Unit Commitment, Economic Dispatch, Linear and Non-
Linear Programming (Optimization) and Numerical Methods.
Experience with multi-threading, high performance, memory intensive analytical applications.
