Introduction :

  • To lead multiple component teams in the delivery of software releases for one or more applications / products across the end-to-end software development lifecycle through the use of internal & 3rd party resources.
  • To build and maintain good client relationships, working closely with project managers to ensure effective delivery within the required project timescales and budget.
  • To build and maintain good stakeholder relationships.
  • What will you be doing?

    Relationship Management (20%)

  • Develop and join the dots for the biggest BUK Transformation program of NGCB (Next Generation Consumer Banking)
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with teams across the organisation, ensuring effective delivery of applications into the production environment.
  • Liaise with project / product managers, keeping them updated on release progress against milestones, risks, issues and finances.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with Technology team(s) to ensure changes deliver to time, cost and quality measures.
  • Develop and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
  • Be the visible point of contact for all release content and a role model of delivery excellence for the product group

    Release Management (40%)

  • Plan, coordinate and supervise all activities related to the design, development, testing and deployment of a quarterly release for an application product (or number of products).
  • Coordinate the demands of a number of projects into one delivery plan.
  • Responsible for scoping, planning, budgeting and forecasting of a release
  • Responsible for managing releases to approved budgets and commitments
  • Liaise with project managers to identify and engage the right resources needed to ensure the success of project(s) and / or release(s).
  • Maintain an aggregate view of demand to assist project manager(s) in controlling projects and reporting progress, providing input from a technology perspective.
  • Ensure that all governance, risk policies, procedures and compliance policies are adhered to.
  • Work closely with the assigned lead engineer(s) to deliver technical strategies for the application components and ensure that change projects are designed and implemented using best practice
  • To maintain a resource forecast that matches the aggregate demand profile.
  • Assist or deputise for the Product Development Manager in Supply & Demand and Risk Management for a product.

    Delivery and Supplier Management (20%)

  • Manage and provide leadership for all resources (designers, developers, testers, etc.) across an application / product, optimising the use of other Barclays and any third party suppliers as required.
  • Follow the appropriate resourcing model to help deliver on cost targets
  • Ensure the effective development of robust, effective application / product changes for all projects within a software release.
  • Manage aggregate change control and configuration management for any application / product releases. Recommend appropriate way forward to key stakeholders based on outcome of impact assessments.
  • Assist in supplier evaluation and selection for specific application / product deliverables. Review supplier proposals for commercial value, good practice, clear understanding of work to be done and capability to execute it.
  • Assist in contract specification, ensuring that the work to be undertaken, quality standards, technical standards and guidelines, technical constraints and mandatory governance practices are clearly specified.
  • Ensure that suppliers are provided with necessary support relating to Barclays systems, technologies, strategies and standards, to enable the supplier to successfully undertake their assignment.
  • Review supplier deliverables ensuring that they meet the necessary standards and contractual agreements. Take action if supplier is failing on commitments.

    Transition into Run / Production (10%)

  • Collaborate with the application support / service teams to ensure smooth transition of applications into their BAU environments.
  • Manage the successful delivery of application / product releases into the production environment.
  • Ensure that all release-related service incidents are resolved during delivery and warranty periods.

    Team Leadership and Staff Development (10%)

  • Lead an application / product component team, assigning daily tasks and proactively identifying ways to improve processes and services.
  • Undertake performance development (PD) responsibility for staff, setting objectives then reviewing and assessing performance in line with a high performing organisation.
  • Identify development needs of staff in the team and assist them in addressing their development needs through guidance and coaching.
  • Contribute to operational objectives of wider team and take lead role in any organisational transformation initiatives.
  • Lead evaluation and review of emerging delivery methods, tools and standards. Apply new ways of working as appropriate.
  • Identify own development needs and proactively drive development of own capability, using all available means, to achieve world class standards.

    What we’re looking for :

  • Software development methodologies, e.g. waterfall, agile
  • Awareness of leading-edge tools, techniques and services within IT
  • Significant experience of managing change across the software development lifecycle.
  • Experience of influencing and managing business and technology stakeholders
  • Significant experience of influencing and managing 3rd party suppliers
  • Significant experience of Team / People management across multiple locations
  • Likely to have managed a delivery of approx £1 - £5m
  • Financial services experience (preferred)
  • Large-scale blue-chip organisations such as Barclays (preferred)
  • Broad knowledge of Barclays Group (beneficial)
  • Skills that will help you in the role :

  • BSc degree in relevant software engineering discipline, equivalent to UK 2nd class honours (preferred).
