As an IS Network and Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for both network and Systems Management activities. Focusing on Network Management, you will be responsible for the operational health (Security, Availability, Performance, Interoperability and Reliability) of Micron’s data communications systems.
You will support the acquisition, installation, maintenance, and administration of Micron’s data and voice communications systems.
Network Engineers specialize in LAN / WAN and Telecommunications hardware, software and cabling. You will regularly work with Micron’s Business Units to ensure solutions meet or exceed business requirements.
You will be expected to suggest, promote, and leverage published standards to minimize environment complexity and ensure regulatory as well as license compliance.
Focusing on Systems Management, you will support the acquisition, installation, maintenance, and administration of Micron’s core computing environment (servers, storage, operating systems and infrastructure).
These systems are host platforms for Micron’s management, file, print, database, remote access, mail, web, manufacturing, and application (client / server) systems.
System Managers specialize in hardware and operating system support, user support, account and permission management, and the performance management, security, and tuning of systems.
You will work with Micron’s Business Units to ensure solutions meet or exceed business requirements. You will be expected to suggest, promote and leverage published standards to minimize environment complexity and ensure regulatory as well as license compliance.
Responsibilities and Tasks
Provide operational support for network (wired and wireless), voice, data, and video infrastructure for the worldwide Micron enterprise.
Manage and maintain the existing environment.
Integrate and support new technology that requires network transport.
Respond appropriately to alarms, alerts, and notifications for the environment from the management system.
Maintain the information in the management system.
Manage contractor support personnel in the operational tasks.
Coordinate with vendors regarding updates to equipment and the equipment lifecycle.
Monitor the needs of the site (bandwidth, network, etc.).
Coordinate with vendors, service providers, and business units for upgrades of services and systems.
Optimize performance of existing and new equipment.
Configure and operate equipment that is supported.
Document processes and procedures.
Communicate the status of the unified network (wired and wireless), voice, data, and video infrastructure.
Provide formal corporate communications on directional changes or changes that will impact existing services.
Keep business units informed on the status.
Educate business units on the feasibility and limitations of the technologies in the environment.
Respond to customer inquiries regarding network performance.
Communicate and collaborate with peer groups (enterprise architects, security team, server team, etc.).
Define, design, and implement core system hardware and operating system solutions.
Define, in conjunction with users and service providers, functionality required to support business strategies.
Work with customers to gather requirements, and propose, engineer, and provision system solutions.
Research and partner with vendors and management to select products that best meet company needs.
Manage system setup and standardization of features and usage.
Install, configure, support, and maintain hardware and operating system solutions.
Create system documentation, testing, training, and post-deployment assessments.
Maintain systems by keeping them tuned and compliant with company standards for optimum performance and capacity utilization.
Maintain systems with the current OS, and software and firmware patches and upgrades.
Maintain standards of operations, such as backups, naming standards, and configurations.
Coordinate planned downtime and software installs of your assigned servers.
Communicate system status and coordinate maintenance activities.
Support day-to-day operations and provide customer support.
Provide 24x7 on-call technical support and expertise for customer issues and service provider escalation.
Monitor the environment for potential system issues and resolve appropriately.
Adhere to the change management process for any planned maintenance, or when potential issues are identified.
Provide training for new team members, computer services staff, and external support teams.
Coordinate vendor-specific support and problem resolution.
Ensure the operational health (Security, Availability, Performance, Interoperability and Reliability) of Micron’s core computing resources.
Establish and implement policies, procedures, and standards, and ensure conformance.
Plan and implement strategies for minimizing service outages, and for reducing the impact of such outages on business operations (i.
e., availability, contingency, and disaster planning).
Adhere to Micron’s established processes and policies.
Continually work to improve operations.
Define and adhere to established service and operational level agreements.
Collect, monitor, report, and interpret operating metrics.
Evaluate and test new software for compatibility with the computing environment.
Propose and implement system enhancements (software and hardware updates) that will improve the performance and reliability of the system.
Identify service improvement opportunities.
Provide system security and access.
Partner with service providers and other IS teams to maintain user accounts, login scripts, user profiles, group additions, and renames.
Adhere to Micron’s security policies for all managed services.
Regularly audit systems to ensure they are meeting compliance requirements.
Evolve the computing environment to meet future demands.
Analyze operating statistics and project future demands for service (i.e., capacity planning).
Benchmark best practices where appropriate.
Develop cost-effective solutions
Communicate and collaborate with peer groups (enterprise architects, security team, network team, etc.).
