Job Family Descriptor

This group of positions is responsible for the delivery and administration of legal services to ensure the issues of risk and governance within the business are aligned to corporate goals.

Assess and manage legal risks faced by various TCL entities, including legal risk assessment for new product launches, extending operations in new geographies, cross-border telecom deals etc.

Provide legal assistance to Board of TCL and TCIPL for information requests. Provide advice and legal expertise to BUs for resolution of disputes around litigations and arbitrations, police cases, statutory filings, licensing requirements, audit findings, business investment roadblocks, land disputes, accounting and taxation, etc.

Supervise outside counsel in processing all court proceedings (including arbitrations, mediations and tribunals) around the world.

File new patent applications as appropriate and manage existing patent portfolio. Oversee all trademark activity. Support Tata Sons' trademark applications and trademark litigations.

Conduct legal research and analysis on selected topics, prepares memoranda, position papers upon request. Resolve complex and general commercial transactions.

Act as main liaison point for banking and financing transactions. Monitor filing and closure of claim settlements. Prepare quarterly litigation report for presentation to Board.

Draft contracts and negotiate. Build and supervise a "legal help desk" of experienced attorneys to handle global transactions of day-to-day commercial matters relating to the sale of voice, data and mobility services as well as procurement matters.

The function ensures adherence to regulatory requirements by constant updation of internal systems in line with evolving regulatory requirements.

Position summary (Key requirements / Purpose of the job) : Representing the company and interacting on its behalf with various Government Organizations like DoT.

  • WPC, TRAI, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Department of Space, Ministry of Home Affairs etc. for approvals in various ongoing cases;
  • Managing and maintaining the relationships with relevant Officers in all these aforesaid Govt. Departments / Agencies and the Regulator;
  • Creation and maintenance of advocacy resources with various NGOs / other influential persons; Managing the advocacy works for achieving the Corporate objectives as required;
  • Creating new resources and relationships for managing the advocacy works; Monitoring the progress of various cases in DoT, TRAI, MIB, DOS & Other Govt.

    Organizations and taking corrective action in case of adversity and representing the organization view point in various Government / non-Government Forums / Organizations.

    Preparation of response to various Consultation Papers of TRAI and in the Regulatory position papers and advising various Business Units in respect of regulatory submissions in WPC and DoT.

    Major Responsibilities : .Interacting with DoT, WPC, TRAI, MIB, DOS, MHA, Designated Security Agencies for expediting the approvals wherever required in various ongoing cases.

  • Monitoring the progress of critical cases in Designated Security Agencies to avoid any adverse action by taking appropriate corrective action wherever required;
  • Protecting the interest of the company in various Ministries of the Government of India as well as before TRAI and the Designated Security Agencies.

    Minimum qualification & experience

    Experience-Necessary Requirement : MBA with technical qualification preferably having higher qualification either on technical of PR side or on both.

    Key Responsibilities

  • Key performance indicators : Obtaining various approvals and clearances in respect of spectrum allocation; Obtaining licenses for services like Inbound Calling Card services;
  • Obtaining clarifications and approvals from MIB as required by the Business Unit; Taking risk mitigation action in DoT, TRAI and MIB in respect of various ongoing non-compliance cases

    Qualification-Necessary Requirement : Specialization in Management, Public Relationship and knowledge in the domain of policy and regulation for the Telecom sector preferably having techno-commercial expertise in the Telecom domain but with main focus on the skill set of PR Management.
