ABOUT THE ROLE As a Data Engineer, you’re passionate about acquiring and optimising data into accessible data platforms so that it can inform data driven decision to improve business outcomes and gain a competitive advantage.

You play a key role in building Telstra’s base data capability with high quality, reliable and readily available data. The role will input into solution design and development of data processing frameworks and data architectural approaches that scales to handle the business’s growing demands.

This is a hands-on role which requires technical expertise enabling input to design and development of data and analytical services including data ingestion, transformation, storage, and reporting along with driving the team towards the successful technical delivery of features.

Utilizing a varied toolset consisting of Scala, Spark, Hive, Java along with Data modelling and Data warehousing skillsets you will be responsible for inputs to solution design, solution development and maintaining a host of Data Sourcing applications that span across Data Ingestion, Data Quality and Data catalog missions within a medium sized agile team distributed across Australia and India.

All software is deployed to a combination of on-premises servers and cloud platforms via Azure & AWS so some dev-ops knowledge is required with Azure as preferred cloud skillset for this role. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Participating in agile scrum ceremonies such as sprint planning, backlog grooming, estimation, and review.
  • Technical ownership of designing, developing and supporting data pipelines to ensure compliance with data standards, architectural standards, and achievement of business requirements
  • Hands-on solution design, architecture, solution development & maintenance to meet business, technical and user requirements.
  • This may include building modern data pipelines that meet the functional / non-functional business requirements and provide end to end data solutions

  • Ensuring upcoming features have appropriate implementation designs allowing the teams to commit to delivery
  • Work across teams to define efficient solutions and implementation strategies to create highly cohesive implementation across data products
  • Forming strong and trusted relationship with the Product Owner; ensuring that the Product Owner is fully aware of the technical capabilities and shortcomings of the product allowing for sensible technical investment decisions
  • Ensure technical debt is managed in line with group level OKR's and Telstra best practices
  • Participate in proofs-of-concepts and effectively transition and scale those concepts into production at scale through, engineering and deployment
  • Drive agile thinking and ways of working to maximise collaboration and value creation
  • Educating and assisting both team and chapter members with their software & data skills
  • Writing & presenting technical documentation to assist others ABOUT YOU To be successful in this role, you must have :
  • Have proven experience as a data engineer
  • Have bachelor or master’s in information technology or similar
  • Have leading class knowledge and hands on experience for solution design, development and maintaining data products on big data stack either on-premise or cloud platform.
  • Advanced SQL scripting skills.
  • Have outstanding skills in technologies such as Apache Spark, Scala, Python, Impala , Hive for data ingestion and transformation (ETL)
  • High level of experience in Azure cloud environment, Databricks, Data factory, Azure Active Directory
  • Good understanding around Data Modelling and Data warehousing concepts
  • Knowledge around CICD and Devops environment and tools such as GIT, Bitbucket, Bamboo, Jenkins, Azure Devops.
  • Data analytics and PowerBI skills
  • Have ability to read, understand and dissect use cases and customer requirements
  • Must display ability to share knowledge and be involved in education / training of other team members as required
