  • Stress Test Review and Challenge is an independent review team, sitting within the Enterprise Risk Management function.
  • The team’s mandate is to provide assurance to senior management and our Group regulator (Prudential Regulation Authority) of the quality of enterprise stress test deliverables.

    Areas of responsibility encompass all aspects of stress testing including portfolio projections, model risk, management actions, etc.

    The team reviews and challenges the outputs of the various stress testing workstreams, such as scenario design, retail credit, wholesale credit, counterparty credit risk, market risk, operational risk, business volumes and margins, liquidity and capital, among others.

    Enterprise stress testing comprises the stress tests required by the Group's management and Board to inform Risk Appetite and the stress tests required by the PRA : ICAAP, Bank of England's annual concurrent stress test, recovery plan stress test, reverse stress test and others as required.

  • The specific purpose of this role will be to lead the review of ALM and Liquidity stress test workstreams and requires technical knowledge of stress testing methodologies as well as excellent stakeholder management, upwards and downwards.
  • Members of the Stress Test Review and Challenge Team are exposed to other workstreams and are expected to expand beyond their initial areas of expertise to support the Head, Stress Testing Review & Challenge in any ad-hoc requests.

  • Drive continuous improvement in methodologies applied, ensuring that regulator feedback is being addressed.
  • Processes

  • Lead the independent review and challenge on enterprise stress tests for ALM & Liquidity across the Bank’s businesses and asset classes.
  • Lead the review of Market Risk results, including XVA and RWA projections.
  • Review end-to-end stress testing processes including methodologies, assumptions, model outputs, judgmental overlays and documentation.
  • Evaluate the development, validation, implementation and ongoing use of traded risk stress testing models, providing value-added insights, feedback and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Drive continuous improvement in methodologies applied, ensuring that regulator feedback is being addressed.

  • Work collaboratively with other team members.
  • Lead and participate in projects on an ad hoc basis.

    Key Stakeholders

  • Present key findings to senior stakeholders internally and make pragmatic and effective recommendations to ensure resolution.
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders in the enterprise stress testing process, especially within Group Risk and the business.
  • Other Responsibilities

    Members of the Stress Test Review and Challenge Team are exposed to other workstreams and are expected to expand beyond their initial areas of expertise to support the Head, Stress Testing Review & Challenge in any ad-hoc requests QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Prior involvement in ICAAP and / or stress testing of Balance Sheet projections, business volumes and margins for different asset classes.
  • Ability to navigate through model development documents, understand the drivers and investigate issues.
  • Advanced understanding of accounting and regulatory concepts.
  • Understanding of model risk management.
  • Detailed knowledge of and direct experience in Bank of England stress testing exercises.
  • Detailed knowledge of products for at least one business.
  • Strong analytical, creativity and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills; comfortable in building relationships at senior levels and across teams, with outstanding written and oral communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and concisely, summarising complex issues for a less technical audience.
  • Confident self-motivated person with a high level of drive and ability to operate in a fast-paced environment.
