The Opportunity : The Platform organization at Athenahealth is looking for a new Product leader for their Front-End Frameworks team.
This team works directly with stakeholders across the company to build out the scaffolding necessary to keep our products on the forefront of front-end web technologies and accelerate quality delivery.
The primary stakeholders are architects and developers across the hundreds of scrum teams at athena, with an eye towards how we can expand our ecosystem capabilities for external and client developers as well.
Position Summary : We are looking for a Product Manager / Owner focused on enabling client-side technology and patterns.
You will work closely with architects across the company to align on best practice patterns, define and prioritize requirements and facilitate delivery.
You should be a technical problem solver with familiarity in front-end development principles. You are a collaborator at heart, able to wrangle across stakeholders and drive to decisions.
You are looking to focus on driving outcomes for a technical product, not be a solution architect.
The Team : Platform Services division is working towards making athenahealth emerge as the de facto healthcare development platform and ecosystem that supports the rapid innovation and delivery of delightful, fit-for-purpose, business apps and services.
We are focused on improving developer productivity, lowering risk during development and production, keeping current product suites reliable and scalable & creating additional revenue stream out of Platform as a Service as we solidify our position as the healthcare backbone.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to :
Collaborate with zone leadership to ensure goals are clear, measurable and reflect the value our work is trying to drive (e.
g. developer productivity, applications utilizing modern tools, front-end performance).
Own, with mentorship, the product roadmap for front-end development capabilities at athena to execute against our objectives and key results (e.
g. front-end code pipeline, front-end logging, reference implementations for the front-end, testing tools, guide clients on client-side optimization, etc.) .
Work with stakeholders to collect business requirements for new features, ensure product- market fit, define paths to iterative value delivery and ongoing feedback channels.
Become THE product subject matter expert in domain and increasingly drive strategic priorities within space.
Write features overviews, epics and stories : coordinate with engineering, architecture and UX to ensure requirements are clear, robust and appropriate.
Ruthlessly focus and prioritize the team on delivering incremental value that builds against a long-term strategy
Develop relationships with internal customer teams to ensure they are engaged and bought into solutions, communication channels are open and collaborative.
Ensure features are released with appropriate risk mitigation, monitoring, stability protections.
Monitor and drive adoption of features post-release.
Contributions to the Team
Key partner to Engineering Manager / Scrum Master in leading the scrum team. Collaborate to build a productive, fun and engaged team culture.
Ensure team understands and is aligned to outcomes, not just delivery.
Participation in all agile activities.
This role is tied to a single scrum team, with collaboration with 2 adjacent teams (our design system and app integration framework) and room to grow.
You will have ownership of a broad area of front-end development tools and the key point person for driving front-end development and efficiency at athena.
Education, Experience, & Skills Required :
5-8 years of experience in a technical role
Experience as, or partnered closely with, a Product Manager
Experience in an Agile environment preferred
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in CS
Experience with AWS, RESTful APIs, and GraphQL to provide data for web applications.
Understanding of web fundamentals such as HTML, CSS, and Webpack. Knowledge around CORS and caching, micro front-ends, webpack are a plus.
