Position summary

The SOC analyst provides first line response to potential security issues by investigating and reporting on alerts from InfoSec utilities.

The SOC analyst works to determine required mitigations and document solutions to a knowledge base.

Essential functions

  • Performs network security monitoring and incident response
  • Maintains records of security monitoring and incident response activities, utilizing case management and ticketing technologies.
  • Monitors and analyzes Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) and other utilities to identify security issues for remediation.
  • Recognizes potential, successful and unsuccessful intrusion attempts and compromises through reviews and analyses of relevant event detail and summary information.
  • Reports analysis methodology and results.
  • Contributes to the creation of and maintains standard operating procedures and other similar documentation.
  • Generates reports for documentation and knowledge transfer to subsequent analysts on duty.
