The Team Lead Systems Engineer will serve in three major capacities.
First, the individual will be accountable and responsible for leading a team of systems Engineers that will support the automation platforms as well as assist development squads by sharing the necessary infrastructure knowledge on best practices and processes to enable the automation of workflows and development of tools.
This team will further assist by contributing code automating infrastructure systems. This role will require personnel management, performance management, time and task management and other such activities related to managing individual contributors.
Second, in addition to managing a team the Lead Systems Engineer will serve as an individual contributor, providing support and management for production and lab automation platforms.
This will include the lifecycle management of these platforms by performing tasks such as platform upgrades, patching, backups, monitoring, DR strategies and similar such operations activities
Third, the person in this role will participate as needed in automation solution development leveraging Saltstack as the primary framework.
The Team Lead Systems Engineer will leverage infrastructure systems knowledge to provide unique insights that will enable the development of automated solutions related to systems and infrastructure operations.
As part of a development squad, this individual will partner with the software engineers, application deployment automation resources and other members, providing the infrastructure operations insights necessary to allow the team to produce automated solutions achieving the desired outcome.
OPPORTUNITY HIGHLIGHTS :
Serve as the leader and mentor of the automation platforms team
Chair the operational readiness and support processes ensuring that all automation systems are operationally ready including backups, monitoring, DR strategies, app / platform upgrade & patch cycles and incident handling processes
Perform upgrades, patching, backups, DR planning, monitoring, incident handling and other such operational services around the automation platforms (saltstack, vrealize automation and other in-house built software tools)
Provide incident handling support including working with the vendor when the platform is inoperable.
Work with the devops and automation leadership teams to understand where knowledge, skillset or other such gaps exist while personnel are working on development squads and resolve the gaps.
Work with development squads to automate infrastructure tasks using Saltstack (yaml / python)
Share infrastructure knowledge with developers in the assigned squad to expedite the creation of DevOps automation workflows or tools.
Create infrastructure & security automation and orchestration workflows, leveraging infrastructure, systems & security background experience to inform intelligent and creative automation solutions.
Responsible for interacting with the Cloud Operations infrastructure teams to understand business best practices and processes
Interface with infrastructure, applications and information security teams to integrate solutions into the automation platform
Execute automation development within an agile scrum model, participating in a squad and working with a scrum master, project manager, product owner and other stakeholders to achieve the desired outcomes.
Participate in release testing and bug remediation activities
Provide day 2 operational support of automation solutions developed, remediating bugs and continually enhancing the code as needed to meet the evolving business needs.
Mentor peers in best practices and sharing infrastructure knowledge amongst peers and developers within and across squads.

8+ years Infrastructure experience administering and managing four or more the following technologies :
1. Vmware virtualization Building servers, templates, datastores, dvswitches, etc
2. AWS or Azure Cloud Platforms
3. Windows Server / domain system administration AD, Group Policy,
4. Linux Server Administration
5. Network administration (routers, switches, load balancers, firewalls, IPS)
6. Compute -Cisco UCS
7. Storage Pure Storage
8. Security -CIS / STIG system hardening, firewalls, IPS, security event management, OS patching, penetration testing
4+ years of experience managing platforms (preferably automation platforms) that includes upgrades, patching, backups, monitoring, DR and other operational responsibilities for the sustainability of a system
Automation platform experience with one of the following : Saltstack, Vrealize Automation, Vrealize Orchestration, Ansible
Saltstack / ansible experience coding with yaml & python leveraging concepts of Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
2+ years of experience as a lead managing other resources
1+ years of experience hands-on coding and scripting in an infrastructure or DevOps automation related capacity.
1+ years of experience working with at least one automation & orchestration system leveraging an infrastructure as code model such as Saltstack or Ansible
1+ year of python coding experience
Demonstrated basic understanding of SQL and writing SQL queries
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree, preferably Computer Science or Engineering discipline.
VMware and Microsoft Windows certifications are strongly desired
Agile and Devops certifications are strongly desired
Cloud certifications on Azure or AWS are preferred
