The Technical Sales Specialist - Pharma is responsible for leading Avantor’s relationships with the

technical teams at target pharmaceutical producers. He / she is charged with understanding

customer / market needs and identifying value creation opportunities for Avantor to engage customers with

our products and services. The Technical Sales Specialist is a process partner for the customers and is

responsible for supporting customers in the evaluation and development of applications with Avantor

products. He / she partners closely with the commercial and technical leadership on these programs and

supports technical interactions with customers to close sales for new products and gain acceptance of new


1. Leads regional application-specific field technical development efforts for biopharmaceutical /

Pharmaceutical projects in upstream to downstream operations specifically in the areas of process

chromatography, formulations and upstream Cell culture

2. Understands Avantor’s product offering and articulates a compelling technical rationale for the use of

Avantor products used in Bioprocess manufacturing

3. Understands the value drivers and technical requirements for customers

4. Supports customers with technical expertise to qualify Avantor products during early project stages

5. Brings the Voice of Customer to Avantor and actively participates during ideation for the innovation

process, including supporting brainstorming sessions

6. Maintains constant direct interaction with target accounts to support business case preparation,

validation of value proposition, voice of customer, customer technical qualifications, etc.

7. Travels to and works at customer's site and leads projects to enhance the performance of Avantor’s

Education : M.S. in Biotechnology or related field, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology

PhD preferred in similar fields or equivalent combination of education, training

and experience.

Experience : Minimum of (5 - 6) years of technical experience in pharmaceuticals / biotech / life

science space, process development, manufacturing, or R&D

Demonstrated ability to develop and successfully execute projects

Demonstrated track record in working closely in highly technical interfaces

identifying needs

Experience working on project development projects in pharmaceuticals and


Demonstrated ability to independently identify, prioritize and successfully

advocate for customer opportunities to drive growth

Skills / Competencies : Customer Orientation, interpersonal effectiveness and high level of collaborative


Ability to lead Voice of Customer technical discussions and extract value

creation opportunities within technical needs

High level of influencing and persuading skills at R&D and Process

Development levels within customer’s organization

Project management skills and Stage Gate process basic knowledge

Ability to communicate clearly the intended message in formal and informal

settings to R&D, Process Development and business audiences

Demonstrates a strong drive for results

Ability to build strong relationships customers and other Avantor team members

Flexibility to respond to changing priorities and shifting deadlines in a fast paced

working environment

Ability to define clear growth account targets and establish a healthy project

account pipeline to drive profitable growth

Other Skills : Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Collaborates productively as a team member

Well organized and able to work with minimal supervision

Strong competency in Microsoft Office, specifically PowerPoint, Word and

Excel; excellent knowledge and execution in Excel

Ability to be at customer sites as required


This position is field based and work is supervised in a remote manner. The duties of the job will require
