HEX is a program that automates the creation and management of basic hardware and software infrastructure required for running Amazon internal services by reducing the undifferentiated effort spent by developers.

Our engineers help shape the Amazon compute strategy by building a highly available platform to host thousands of services that operate at the core of Amazon’s business, at Internet scale (tens of thousands of transactions per second).

We enable Amazon’s internal developers minimize time-to-market by allowing them to simply launch their application code as a service, operating in a managed, tier-

1, resource-efficient hosted environment. Even with 2600+ tenants serving over 450 billion requests per week, we are still at an early stage and working on ambitious new initiatives where every member of the team can have significant technical and business impact.

In this role you will be responsible for managing a team of Support and System Development engineers that support the HEX customer base by building building the tools and automating the support activities.

You also contribute to the roadmap for reducing the operations load and making sure that the load doesn’t increase linearly with the increase in the number of customers.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline
  • 10+ years of relevant engineering and operations experience
  • 3+ years of management experience managing dev-ops, production support and on-call teams
  • Computer Science fundamentals in systems and network engineering, problem solving, and complexity analysis
  • Substantive hands-on experience solving systems and operations problems
  • Passionate and experienced in establishing, measuring, and meeting service level agreements, improving the availability, performance, and quality of systems
  • Ability to work well with people and be both highly motivated and motivating
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Master's degree in Computer Science
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Clear, professional communication skills, able to contribute to team discussions, knowing when to contribute, when to listen, and when to ask questions.
  • Experience with scaling and performance of large scale business critical systems
