The Deployment team within Synamedia’s Services EMEA is dedicated to, and responsible for, the delivery and support of large complex cutting edge projects to Synamedia’s customers.

This encompasses the entire project lifecycle from analysing the customer requirements, integrating and testing new software components, delivery and installation into customer environments and handover of the system for on-going support.

The role involves close collaboration with teams in both Headend and STB development within Synamedia as well as our customer project teams.

Projects range from maintenance releases for components up to large multi-year projects providing new systems and functionality.

The position is primarily based in the Synamedia office, but on occasion short periods of work in other offices as well as at customer sites should be expected.

Main Responsibilities / Duties

  • Involvement in the delivery of complex projects to Synamedia customers.
  • Collaborating with other Delivery engineers to ensure successful project delivery to the customer
  • Installation and integration of components / sub-systems / whole systems
  • Technical knowledge of the project and impacted platforms
  • Ability to collaborate with customer project teams.
  • Maintain technical documentation
  • Execute test plans ensuring that requirements have been met, system behaviour is as expected and determine whether the system is suitable for release to the customer
  • Independently troubleshoot issues identified while testing.
  • Accurate analysis, tracking and reporting of any problems or issues found during integration and testing
  • Collaboration with the development and support teams to resolve issues
  • Development of training material, for education and knowledge sharing with other team members as appropriate
  • Provision of timely and accurate information to project stakeholders
  • Responsible for ensuring that all areas of functionality are tested and meet project requirements
  • Keeping up-to-date with new technologies and testing methodologies
  • Providing Level 2 technical support to the Service Assurance Team
  • Education / Experience :

  • HNC / Degree Computer Sciences or experience in a similar role
  • Several years experience in a relevant support, integration or development role including technical leadership
  • Technical Skills :

  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Technical knowledge of the delivery of bespoke applications to a large customer
  • Good Linux and Linux Systems Administration experience
  • Experience in deployment and configuration of software applications on both Linux and Windows operating systems
  • Experience with a video delivery systems, preferably in a support or integration role
  • Knowledge of relational databases (Oracle preferred)
  • SQL scripting skills
  • Awareness of NoSQL databases (Mongo preferred)
  • Knowledge of applications clusters for application redundancy desirable, e.g. Veritas Cluster Server, Red Hat Cluster
  • Knowledge of MPEG / DVB or other video delivery technologies
  • Past exposure to Conditional Access and DRM systems is desirable
  • Familiarity with STB software and hardware
  • Knowledge of test management software is desirable
  • Proven experience with at least one scripting language (bash, python, perl)
  • Basic understanding of at least one static programming language (Java preferred)
  • Good knowledge of networking and TCP / IP
  • Good understanding of network transfer protocols HTTP, FTP
  • Ability to understand complex data represented in XML or JSON
  • Ability to write and understand complex XSLT to transform XML is advantageous
  • Awareness of version control systems desirable (Git preferred)
  • Previous experience with deployment of virtual machines using VMware (vSphere and vCenter) would be advantageous.
