Job summary

Kindle has changed the way books are published, sold and read across the globe. This BIE position is for the Kindle content protection team whose mission is to constantly improve the security of Kindle content from creation to consumption and in turn protect the trust of content creators, rights holders and reading customers, reputation of our brand and profitability of our business.

We are looking for a talented Business Intelligence Engineer who is customer obsessed, result-oriented and relishes the opportunity to guide high-impact decisions through data.

In this role you will work closely with product managers and engineering leaders to derive quantitative insights about how customers navigate our products, identify opportunities for improvement, and shape strategic recommendations.

You will be part of a new initiative on a growing team and will have the freedom to innovate and create lasting impact for our customers.

A successful candidate will have a deep knowledge of business intelligence solutions and possess excellent statistical and analytical abilities, and have the ability to work with technology, product development, and business teams.

They will have passion for data and analytics, be a self-starter comfortable with ambiguity, with strong attention to detail, an ability to work in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment.

They are capable of communicating analysis results and techniques, both verbally and in writing, clearly and confidently to peers and business partners.

Key job responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain scaled, automated, user-friendly systems, reports, dashboards, etc. that will support our business needs
  • Use analytical and statistical rigor to solve complex problems and drive business decisions that will help us achieve our strategic goals.
  • Write high quality SQL code to retrieve and analyze data from database tables (ex. Redshift, MySQL, Oracle), and learn and understand a broad range of Amazon’s data resources and know how, when, and which to use and which not to use.
  • Develop queries and visualizations for ad-hoc requests and projects, as well as ongoing reporting.
  • BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS / MS degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Predictive Analysis, Mathematics or related field.
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience in Business Intelligence, Analytics, or Data Science or related technical field.
  • Experience with coding, query development, and visualization SQL, PL / SQL, Python, Redshift, Quicksight and Tableau.
  • Ability to work with the Product & Tech team to understand the space & define the right metrics.
  • Data Analysis : Understand business processes, logical data models and relational database implementations.
  • Expert knowledge in SQL. Optimize complex queries
  • Proven ability to structure complex analysis and perform the analysis to drive insights
  • Ability to work with the Product & Tech team to understand the space & define the right metrics.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Computer science, I.T or Engineering parallels.
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in Business Intelligence, Analytics, or Data Science or related technical field.
  • A strong track record of iterative design, working closely with business, product and tech partners from inception through implementation.
  • Coding proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Python, Ruby, Java, etc).
  • AWS, Tableau certifications or other related professional technical certification
  • Experience using AWS technologies (Redshift, S3).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
