The Software Engineering Manager position is accountable to deliver highest quality software for UHG / Optum next generation web-

based Provider portals, Integration service platform, applications, and solutions. As an integral member of the technology delivery team, this resource will be a key contributor in designing, coding, debugging, documenting and supporting software applications consistent with established specifications and business requirements along with leading a team.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years of full stack software engineering experience in Java, Angular / React JS, Micro-Services, REST API and Cloud.

Responsibilities :

  • Work with U.S business and Product owners in developing a new features and reusable services supporting end-user demands.
  • Conduct evaluations, Proof of concepts for new tools and technologies to ensure that the team stays at the frontier of technology.
  • Attend deep dives with U.S business, Infrastructure, DevOps team on various aspects of application performance and maintenance, and help with hardware capacity planning.
  • Deliver new capabilities to business by establishing the basis for design and implementation guidelines, through a rigorous process of comparisons and proof of concept implementations that lead to new architecture using proprietary tools and leading technology assets.
  • Work closely with development team in helping them build modular, resilient and portable services on the new architecture and proprietary tools and methodologies.
  • Work closely with DevOps Engineers to set up the infrastructure and deployment pipelines for code deployment and maintenance.
  • Participate in agile meetings, design reviews, code reviews, test case reviews, production support readiness reviews for new releases, and provide inputs for go / no-go decision.
  • Develop innovative approaches on performance optimization & automation using Optum proprietary tools and methodologies.
  • Support Quality Engineers, User acceptance testers and release phases of the project via defect analysis, change maintenance.
  • Provide faster turnaround for analysis support, design and issues arising during system / integration testing.
  • Work with configuration / release management to develop release plans that ensure proper applications deployment.
  • Mentor and guide developers and quality engineers and provide healthcare and technology leadership to them.
  • Constantly look at Performance & Security aspects and propose an architectural solution for security vulnerabilities.
  • Assist team in evaluating new open source technologies that align with the company's cost-effective solutions as an alternative to expensive commercial license.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of a project.
  • Requirements :

  • 10+ years of IT experience in Application development and maintenance involving full stack technologies.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in People leadership.
  • Solid understanding of application architecture and Enterprise Integration patterns.
  • Strong experience building user interfaces with Angular / React JS (React JS is preferred).
  • Strong experience in Java Programming (Strong Java Knowledge).
  • Solid understanding of Multi-Threading, Collection Framework and JDK Streams.
  • Experience building cloud based REST APIs / Soap web services.
  • Strong hands on experience in one of cloud platforms like Open Shift Enterprise, MS Azure or AWS.
  • Experience working with Spring Boot and Spring Integration.
  • Experience working with SQL and / or NoSQL DBs.
  • Experience with automated unit testing technologies like Junit, TestNG and tools like SOAP, JMeter.
  • Previous experience with Agile Methodology.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Good communication and presentation skills.
  • Hands-on engineering manager, responsible for leading a team of engineers and delivering highest quality products.
