Job Title : Supervisor, Engineering

General Summary : To provide technical leadership and direction to the Engineering team. Plans, develops, implements and monitors product processes for new and existing products.

Responsible for coordinating, monitoring and supervising the activities of the team. Establishes goals for the department employees and ensures that these departmental goals are achieved by communicating established objectives.

Provides feedback to management regarding overall individual team member performance. Develops departmental personnel to enhance skills, improve responsiveness, and promote business growth.

Duties & Responsibilities :

  • Technical Expertise : Demonstrate a complete mastery of all aspects in their area of responsibility. Provide an objective problem-
  • solving resource for all the downstream / upstream processes.

  • Cross Functional Support : Provide technical expertise to Assembly Operations, and other functional areas to provide optimal value to the customer while maintaining lowest total costs.
  • Influence product design to provide the best mix of design for manufacturability, ease of assembly and customer service.

  • Project Management : Provides overall technical leadership for developing and implementing innovative processes and technologies.
  • Initiates activity and identifies applications for new processes and technologies. Makes appropriate recommendation to management regarding scope and resource requirements of project.

    Once approved, manages projects with minimal support from management. Estimates required tasks and resources for manufacturing methods and establishes timeline for projects.

    Monitor measures of project performance and report project status to management.

  • Leadership : Technical leader inside and outside the department. Provides technical training and support throughout organization.
  • Consistently challenges status quo to ensure that department operations are technologically positioned to meet our business requirement.

    Takes leadership role and facilitates teams in process and quality improvement initiatives. Establishes and maintains an effective staff through performance appraisals, corrective action, recommendations for salary increases / promotions, staffing, global communications and training of technical competence.

  • Plans and establishes schedules and follows up performance; recommends new procedures as necessary.
  • Makes recommendations and controls departmental annual budget including capital expenditure
  • Focus on continuous process improvement, cost reduction, and improvement of operational efficiency
  • Assist in determination of root cause for rejected parts and their disposition. Ensures root cause analysis translates into process improvements when appropriate
  • Administers direct supervisory responsibilities for Engineering personnel, including selection, hiring, training, performance evaluation, corrective action, promotional recommendations and work schedules.
  • Ensures that time and attendance for assigned employees is accurate in data collection system.

  • Will need to be able to handle multiple responsibilities at one time and must be able to deal effectively with people using a facilitative approach.
  • Is instrumental in developing a flexible workforce.

  • Work assignment decisions based upon manpower levels, production plan and equipment status
  • Make judgment call on overtime needs
  • Make time off decisions
  • Recruiting / Hiring Decisions
  • Decisions / Problems referred to Operations Manager

    Corrective Action Suspensions and Terminations

    Qualification : Bachelor’s in Engineering

    Experience : preferably minimum 5 Years of shopfloor-related work experience in a medium volume / mix electro-mechnaical manufacturing or production environment with emphasis on trouble shooting and process improvements, also 3-

    4 years of related supervisory experience. Preferably overall 8+ years of work experience.

    Skills Required :

  • Include demonstrated competencies and physical, mental, & interpersonal skills.
  • Minimum of 2 to 3 years of work Experience in Lean Manufacturing environment. Should have knowledge on solid works / AutoCAD software and TPM practice.
  • Ability to effectively interact with personnel of various levels and disciplines.
  • Preferred proficiency in SAP as it relates to time and attendance, material transactions, etc.
  • Must have excellent communication / leadership skills
  • Must have excellent people skills and have strong potential for strong leadership development
