Manager, Information Experience (IX)

VMware, Inc., is a global leader in cloud infrastructure and virtualization solutions that significantly reduce IT complexity.

The IX Manager works with the IX leadership and R&D teams to lead technical writing teams in the design, creation, deployment, and maintenance of product documentation.

As an IX Manager, you should demonstrate strong writing and technical expertise to understand and explain VMware products.

Summary

The IX team has a core mission to deliver product documentation and help systems that help customers achieve their goals.

To produce the customer-facing product documentation, the IX team uses many enterprise-level content management, authoring, and deployment tools.

The IX Manager must work with the IX Managers team, R&D stakeholders, outside vendors, and IX team members to ensure the successful and timely delivery of product documentation.

The IX Manager should be results-oriented with a strong focus on quality documentation, and enjoy working as part of a distributed, global team in a fast-paced environment.

You should be able to work with little supervision to work with R&D stakeholders, outside vendors, and IX team members to ensure the successful delivery of product documentation.

In addition to managing the IX team, managers are responsible for tracing KPIs to demonstrate team success and driving innovation throughout the department and community.

Responsibilities

  • You lead a product library or documentation group end-to-end to support several products.
  • Define goals and track progress to deliver impactful business results for the IX department.
  • Provide career guidance, performance feedback, and professional development discussions to team.
  • Build relationships with R&D leaders and product teams on behalf of the department.
  • Work with R&D teams to understand product needs, schedules, and requirements.
  • Engage with company support team such as HR, Staffing, IT, Support, etc.
  • Hire and allocate resources to support product engagements.
  • Manage contractors, contractor spending, and track operational spending.
  • Represent VMware externally to the technical writing community.
  • Required Skills and Experience

  • Positive attitude to engage with a diverse set of global teams.
  • Prior management experience.
  • People management skills to set clear objectives and accountability standards for team members.
  • Proven ability to understand and synthesize technical information.
  • Project management skills to effectively track and manage the work of your team.
  • Familiarity with technical writing teams, content development standards and processes.
  • Experience working on global teams.
  • Strong communication and organization skills.
  • Technical understanding of networking technology.
  • Proficient in using Jira.
  • Experience working in an agile development environment and comfortable working with other teams in this environment.
  • Experience with Markdown and GitHub.
  • Strong editorial skills.
  • 5+ years of experience in technical communication or a related area.
