WhatsApp is seeking an experienced and entrepreneurial individual to lead Merchant Acquisition and Growth for WhatsApp Payments in India.

This role will report into the Director of WhatsApp Pay India.With 400M+ active users in India, this is a unique opportunity to build a globally significant and socially important payments business and brand.

You would be responsible for the growth and adoption of WhatsApp Payments with merchants in India. This would include defining and executing merchant acquisition strategies for online and offline merchants, managing strategic partner programs, and identifying new opportunities or important market requirements that can be added to product roadmap.

This position requires experience in payments as well as a track record of successfully growing consumer-focused products or services in India.

This role will need to work in close partnership with product and marketing teams. This is a full-time position based in Gurgaon or Mumbai.


  • Develop and execute strategy, go-to-market plans, partnerships and other programs to drive adoption of WhatsApp Payments in merchant use cases across formats like online, organized retail, unorganized retail, and unorganized services and categories like grocery, fuel, etc.
  • Build a ecosystem of 3P partners, agencies and internal capabilities to grow merchant acquisition and engagement of Whatsapp Pay
  • Develop and execute a strategy to drive value added services and products to WhatsApp Pay merchants
  • Define, test, and scale innovative product / services & engagement programs to win share and retain users
  • Influence and collaborate deeply with cross-functional stakeholders including Product, Marketing, other business teams, and Legal / Regulatory to deliver success
  • Minimum Qualification

  • 15+ years of work experience in Consumer Marketing & Acquisition in either eCommerce or Banking / Digital Payments. Experience in both is preferred
  • Experience in scaling and managing P&L for businesses at large organizations
  • Experience in managing large-scale physical-digital acquisition programs for partner / seller / merchant acquisition
  • Experience in managing relationships with large external partners
  • Preferred Qualification

  • Masters or MBA
  • Led cross-functional teams and managed businesses in multiple geographies
  • Experience in retail payments will be an added advantage
  • Entrepreneurial experience
