Job Description

The TSM Administrator’s role is to operate and performance-tune backup platforms across the organization to ensure high levels of data quality, availability, and security.

This individual also participates in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure backup efficiency, and maintenance that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements

Major responsibilities :

  • Perform tasks necessary to fulfill service level agreements with end-users regarding backup / restore scheduling, implementation of Varian backup / retention policy, backup / restore testing and oversight of the global TSM backup environment.
  • Perform and test backups and restores to ensure that enterprise data is effectively protected.
  • Communicate and enforce, through system procedures, scheduling and backup retention policies.
  • Follow change control, incident response, and testing processes for modifications to backup appliances and software.
  • Anticipate, mitigate, identify, respond to, and resolve issues with backup devices, backup access, and data retrieval.
  • Research and make recommendations on backup products, services, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.
  • Monitor, analyze, and predict trends for backup equipment performance, media allocation, and data growth to recommend enhancements to the IT L3 Engineering Team.
  • Develop routines for end-users to facilitate backup / restore best practices.
  • Remain informed on data retention laws, trends, and issues, including current and emerging technologies and best practices;
  • advise, counsel, and educate executive and management teams on their relative importance.

  • Ensure that information data retention measures and equipment adhere to all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Oversee IT Audit requirements for data backup / restore as required by Varian IT Audit group.
  • Create required reports in response to business user needs.
  • Develop, document, and maintain operational processes and tasks.
  • Manage and / or provide guidance to junior members of the team.
  • Job Requirements

    Education / Experience : Educational requirements and number of years related experience acquired before or with Varian Medical Systems (VMS)

    Educational requirements : Degree in computer science or equivalent

    ITIL Certification

    Number of years related experience : Minimum 10 years related experience, minimum 5 years of experience in the networking field

    Knowledge : Things incumbent needs TO KNOW to successfully perform on the job

    Information Technology :

  • Good understanding of backup architecture design techniques, theories, principles, and practices.
  • Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring, and supporting backup servers and management software, including but not limited to TSM.
  • Working technical experience with NetApp SnapCenter (Snapshot) management.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting experience
  • Understanding of ITIL processes and best practice
  • Customers : Sound understanding of customers and their requirements.
