Job Description Summary : You have the desire to take PayPal to the next level. BS Computer Engineering degree or masters in Technology field or related technical field involving infrastructure lead support with 8+ years of computer industry experience is required.
System engineer lead must be versatile in Unix, scripts, and virtual infrastructure (Public and Private cloud) . Good understanding of cloud container orchestration platforms, OpenStack, KVM, REST, Object oriented technologies, automation tools like ansible / puppet, load balancers, monitoring tools (Nagios / Zabbix / Sensu / IRIS) , build and process tools (git, Jenkins, Rally, Jira, ServiceNow ), programming skills in one or more (Perl, python and go ) languages
First responders to any Infra systems and application events / impacts that are detected in the PayPal Command Center by various monitoring systems.
Assess system service impacts, create recovery plans, flex-ups, flex-downs and provide step execution approval for backline teams during critical incident restoration activities
Develop and enhance production monitoring and management capabilities leveraging existing platforms and tools.
Work independently and within a team to triage and remediate production system and application incidents.
Handle escalations from PayPal partners about critical issues.
Work with Technical Duty Officer and other support teams inside and outside the Command Center in troubleshooting, escalating, and resolving critical site incidents.
Identify recurring system and application issues and work with cloud teams, infra teams, product development, vendors and other stakeholders in investigating and resolving cause.
Send external communications regarding outages to PayPal merchants, partners and customers.
Maintain accurate documentation of site incidents, including impact details, timelines, steps taken for mitigation / resolution.
Develop and maintain technical documentation for use by all of PayPal operations interacting with the live site.
Develop self-remediation or self-healing tools to protect production and engineering infra systems. Engage with engineering partners and enable them to build the right tools for site.
Be a member of 12hr day shift (lead) Cloud system engineering - CSE team and work closely with TDOs of the PayPal Command Center team in investigating the reason for outage of the event and work towards mitigating / resolution of hypervisors, physical and virtual infra assets and infra services.
BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field involving coding.
8+ years of software development or technical lead or operations lead experience or Site recovery engineering lead in hybrid cloud environments.
Excellent debugging and problem solving skills
Experience in troubleshooting / debugging complex multi-tier applications
Knowledge in Systems and multi-tier application and Network Troubleshooting
Experience with database concepts (SQL or NO SQL)
Expertise in Linux / Unix.
Scripting languages (Shell & Python or go or Perl)
Experience with load balancing principles
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Experience with managing incidents.
Self-directed work style with no supervision.
Ability to co-ordinate with a global team in different timezones.
