Study design : Mixed methods evaluation / assessments
Study Period : April 2017- March 2018
IFMR LEAD is currently working on a national level evaluation of the Grantees of the Infosys Foundation Funding for the year 2014-
15 and 2015-16. The project is a continuation of the third round for 17-18. This is an Impact Assessment of grants awarded to the grantees of the Infosys Foundation, Bangalore.
The assessment seeks to gain an insight into the grantees scope of work and the accomplishments of the programs and evaluate the progress towards the stated objectives and the long-
term goals. The intention is to make available for the Foundation actionable, timely and comprehensive data and insights useful for decisions and funding priorities.
In this funding cycle we are focusing on econometric analysis including trying to arrive at cost effectiveness of projects.
The Research Associate engages with the various stakeholders, conducts evaluation / costing / qualitative research on specific projects funded by the Infosys Foundation as indicated by the manager and prepares reports to be submitted to the Foundation
Duties and responsibilities
Responsibilities for project
Conducting assessments using a variety of methodologies including cost effectiveness analyses, short surveys, web based surveys, participatory appraisals, qualitative methods, and secondary data analysis.
Liaising with funder, partners, grantee organisations and managing subcontractors and field researchers as required.
For econometric / quantitative / qualitative research assist in designing sampling strategies, instruments to ensure that they meet evaluation needs.
Carry out desk research, including literature reviews and secondary data analyses based on academic publications and grey literature.
Data management and analysis including managing transcripts, collating, managing and cleaning data sets to ensure accuracy and objectivity.
Assist in making recommendations and reports based on the evaluation findings. Produce written and numeric outputs including but not limited to research reports.
Ensure data collection, analysis and archiving is in compliance with organisation policies, internal working practices and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities for organisational development
Assist in proposal writing, budget preparation, literature reviews and co-ordinating work for other projects as and when required to.
Work collaboratively with other teams as and when required to.
Skill and experience requirements
Familiarity with and understanding of the core principles of econometric, quantitative and qualitative research and skills in research methods, and data handling, analysis
High level of competency in Microsoft Word, Excel
Excellent writing skills and ability to present research evidence innovatively
A high degree of self-motivation and resourcefulness combined with a willingness to adopt a hands-on’ role
Ability to manage multiple demands, adjust priorities and negotiate timescales as necessary
Competent user of at least one statistical software package (preferably SPSS but also including Stata, R, or SAS)
Experience of writing proposals
Ability to network with external partners and stakeholders
Bachelor’s degree with 1-2 years of research experience or Master’s degree in Economics / Health Economics / Public Health / Development Studies etc.
