The Service Operations Deployment Specialist ensures that deployments are properly planned and managed to meet all operational requirements for service products.
These individuals are responsible for the tracking of deployment activities through to completion.
What you'll be doing
Assist and co-ordinate the service deployment processes within the service development lifecycle
This individual acts in a structured role supporting the Service Product deployment to ensure that the service operations requirements are built, installed, tested and deployed successfully and in compliance with standard project process and procedures.
Their focus is on effective and seamless integration with existing operations practices such as monitoring and links to other service operations processes that are in place.
Own and enable the service deployment process
The Service Operations Deployment Specialist is the primary individual responsible for ensuring that deployment services processes, policies and methods are defined, applied and executed.
They apply principles and disciplines, where applicable, as prescribed by ITIL to the process. They take control of the complete service operations deployment lifecycle and manage this process to successful execution.
This individual collaborates with colleagues in the service development lifecycle ensuring that each deployment is of quality and meets all required standards and specifications.
They assist with the scope and create plans for the deployment of service operations practices. These plans will consider the process integration requirements, roles and responsibilities and awareness and communication relating to the deployment.
The Service Operations Deployment Specialist will monitor and report on the progress of the plans and related risk and issues.
These individuals will plan and co-ordinate with the Service Development Deployment Specialist to prioritise requested deployment packages based on relatedness and priority and they will ensure that all deployment packages are scheduled and aligned to the service development project process.
Before the final release, the Service Operations Deployment Specialist will determine the readiness for release based on a number of different criteria including GSIP stage gates.
Produce and use reports
The Service Operations Deployment Specialist will conduct post implementation reviews to determine whether key success metrics have been achieved.
They are responsible for providing management reporting on all activities as required by the region.
They obtain the necessary authorizations and / or approvals in accordance with the Dimension Data GSIP stage gates.
Provide inputs and guidance to continuously improve internal tools and methods
In terms of internal improvement, they identify changes required to the Service Operations Deployment process and collaborate with colleagues on other environments to improve and implement these changes.
They ensure that all relevant stakeholders are informed of and trained on the correct service operations processes.
They ensure that adequate testing is conducted before the deployments are released and they compile the plans and procedures for testing.
Should releases fail, the Service Operations Deployment Specialist will assist with and contribute to root cause analysis of these failures.
Manage change control notifications
The Service Operations Deployment Specialist will ensure that the required regional communication and notifications are compiled and distributed.
When necessary this specialist will contribute to the planning and co-ordination of regional training.
These individuals are required to display a high level of attention to detail and good planning, communication and organising ability.
They need to communicate effectively and be able to take ownership of problems. Their ability to work well in a team will contribute to their success.
Service Operations Deployment Specialists display a client service orientation, but are able to balance delivery with agreed and contracted expectations.
They display influencing ability in co-ordinating and managing a variety of resources on a release project team.
